Mowing Different wheels for the back of my mower deck

I thought I saw on here somewhere that one of the guys put different wheels on the back of his mower deck?

Two reasons I would want to do this.

1. rounded edge wheels would be nice for less scraping.

2. I would like to be able to get the deck a little lower too.

Any thoughts?

Could have been me but I don't think I'm the only one. Here's what I did with the rear wheels on my 1845 rough cut mower. MSC carries these wheels in various sizes. I've used them for a full season now and haven't had to add any air at all since I put them on /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Wheels and tires are about the weakest link in PT's attachment lineup IMHO.

The brush hog I recently received came with the hard wheels like you installed. Did PT realize the problem and correct it or did the hog for the 422 always have these rear wheels?

The front has those tires, and it came delivered with one flat. I purchased some "bulletproof" tire sealer from Gemplers and installed some in the flat front hog tire (but not the one that still had air). I also installed it in the 4 PT tires.

I've been mowing some very brushy areas, including massive areas of blackberries. A couple of days after I first did some of that mowing, the front mower tire that didn't have the juice became flat. I installed the stuff in that tire then, and haven't had any tire problems since, and I've been mowing more and more of the tough stuff. It was much more expensive than the green slime but relative to the tractor price it wasn't unbearably overpriced.
