Ive decided on the Massey 1700 series, but am stuck between the 1710 and 1720. Ive checked a few sites and am having trouble finding the differences between the 2 models. Does anyone know where I can find out what all the differences are? Im trying to decide if its worth the extra $$ for the 1720

A few extra hp and operating at higher rpm's and a better seat .
Besides this, the rest is basically cosmetics.

I don't know about the 17 series, but I bought a 2610 and later found out that the only difference between it and a 2410 is that they allow more rpm to the same motor. I feel like I was ripped off. I almost never run the higher rpm.

with the 10% hp increase you also get 10% more hydraulic flow. I've owned a GC2400 and a GC1720, and yes, I can tell the difference....but its not significant. The nicest thing is the upgraded seat...

I would almost rather buy the seat separate then finance it. If the only difference is the HP created by the higher RPM governor, can you just change the governor on the 1705/1710 to allow it to the higher rpm?

The differences between a GC1710 and a GC1720 are the same differences between a GC1705 's a GC1715. There is a very recent thread that details those differences.

In a nutshell the price difference ranges between $1,000 and $2,000 for a 10 to a 20 or an 05 to a 15 depending on your dealer and region in the country. Some will want to minimize the HP and seat vale . . . and some will say it's a fair difference in benefit. Read the thread comparing the GC1705 vs GC1715 and it will detail the differences with explanations.

You also get the caged taillights on the ROPS

I looked up the parts last night. There are actual part number differences in the fuel pump itself. Additionally, the stop had a different number.

There is almost no difference in PTO hp (.2 difference) at 540 rpm. If you were to run the pto a little faster, the 3000 rpm motors would make a noticeable difference, but your pto would be spinning at 570 or so (which would probably be fine).

As for engine hp, the 3000 rpm motors net 2.3 more at full rpm. I feel that is considerable.

My opinion is that hydraulic differences are likely negligible, considering the relief valve on both setups are set to 1920psi.

Seat Is a tangible upgrade, as is the guards in the turn signals. I personally completely removed mine today (it spends no time outside my 5 acres). At some point I may move them to the inside of the ROPS, and even with guards, I would bend them up/break them in my tight trails.
