They are priced the same (~$8500.00)

The Diesel is a Trail Gator, so it has the brush guard and a few other little goodies...

Which is the better buy?

I have hills woods, etc...

No doubt I would go for the diesel! That's a good price of $8500 for the diesel.

I too like the 6x4. I think they are more comfortabe and heavy duty than the new Gators. Both would go through mud and snow good. The HPX has a little more ground clearence though.

RockyRidge,

What are you leaning toward. I drove a 6x4 around a good bit a month ago and could not stop smiling. The guy traded in for a HPX. The HPX would turn sharper without tearing up the grass and dirt as much.

Well, in this case, I would probably go for the 6x4, if it weren't a Trail version. Mainly I am using that as an excuse, because I am not quite ready for one. My wife is the one who really wants one, and she will want a green one (although a good enough deal on a Trail would probably get her ear...)

For the most part, the deals I am seeing on used, makes me more inclined toward a new HPX. Our place has some extreme hills, so it would probably be well worth it...

I have a 6X4 gas burner and I really like the looks of the HPX. A couple of things to consider; the Trail Gator already has the front bumper and brush guard. Does the HPX have those already on it? Mine didn't and I have bought the bumper so far, but I haven't gotten the guard yet. Does the Trail Gator have the power dump option? The dump option for it is about $450. I don't know how much the that option would be for the HPX but the set up looks different. The power dump was a must have for me. Even empty that dump bed is HEAVY to dump manually and so far the power dump has worked flawlessy.

Trail gators alreadey have the bumper/brush guard... This one doesn't have the power dump. I agree it is a must on the 6x4

The HPX comes with a bumper std. The bed is reconfigured so that it is much easier to dump, not that a power dump isn't a good idea.

I've owned 2 6X4 Gators, one diesel and one gas. I'm only replying due to the fact that you mentioned that you have some steep hills. From experience I can tell you that it is nearly impossible to flip a 6X4 diesel Gator. The driver and/or the passenger may fly out, but I don't see the Gator ever being unstable on a hill. With fuel injection on diesel engines a hill never comes into play with the running or idling part of being on an incline. I actually sold my Gator and bought a new Kubota RTV for the specific uses I have for the vehicle. However, there is positively no comparison as to whether the Gator is more stable on a hill. If hilly terrain is an issue, the Gator 6X4 beats the HPX 4X4 or the Kubota RTV on stability hands down. Good luck! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I bought an HPX 4x4 yesterday, supposed to be delivered today. I too, was wanting the diesel version but the HPX diesel is not out yet.

After looking at the specs, the diesel only offers one ft/lb more of torque than the gas model. I couldn't justify the additional $2,500 for the small amount of difference (even though I prefer everything diesel)!

For me, the rear suspension of the HPX was impressive over the non-suspended 6x4.

I got the rig out the door for an even 8k, receiver hitch included. How does this price compare to what you guys are seeing?

Thanks,
Chuck
