diesel timinglight

I found it in my workshop manual it shows the light clip to the #1 fuelline and pointed at flywheel it should be 25 degrees seting.what hapens over time the rollers wear on bottom of fuel pump an cause it to ******.i've been having trouble stating even with glow plugs working and temp down here arond 65 degrees so i just tried taken 1 shim out so my book shows by doing so i advanced it by 1.5 degrees and it started alot easer i just need to find a light to make sure its right.
