Oil & Fuel Diesel Gal/Hr

/ Diesel Gal/Hr #61
Just to keep the info accurate, since a few folks were surprised at the miserly consumption rate of my L4310HST, the most recent check came in at .68 GPH, my worst yet. I was pulling up trees and rough grading.

Mark, do you remember if JimBinMI ever posted his fuel consumption? Seemed to remember that it was pretty close to yours, but can't find it listed in this thread.

Wen, I don't remember. I think he should, though, don't you? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

MarkC & Wen,

No, I never have. I have thought about doing it but haven't gotten around to it yet. I have all of the receipts from my fuel purchases and it was full when it was delivered. I have about 80 hours on it now so that should give a pretty good average if I can get all of the receipts together.

MarkC, how do you get so accurate with your gal/hr, do you fill up while it's on your trailer at the station? If you have any shortcuts for calculating this please let me know.

JimBinMI - You obviously should be able to get a very good average, since you have all your receipts for fuel.

You guessed it - I record all the fuel I put in from cans, then calculate the average the next time I fill up at a station. It's the only way to be very accurate over the short run, that I know of.

I then load the hours and gallons into a simple spreadsheet that calculates the current GPH and overall GPH to date.

MarkC,

Thanks, and I thought that I was detail oriented! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

And I thought you were BLUE oriented. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Wen,

I would have to agree with that since my orientation towards quality, capability and dependability steered me that way! /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

But, not, apparently, fuel consumption. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Just in case anybody cares, I have kept fairly accurate records lately on my B1700, and my original guesstimate of 5 gallons per 10 hours of use turns out to be accurate - I log a consistant .5 gallons per hour. Not bad, but considering that Marks tractor does a lot more work than mine, his numbers are really impressive.

Paul, I think that puts you right in the top of the fuel consumption. Somewhere in this thread, I summed the data and it looked like 0.5 to 1.0 hours/gallon diesel. Course those that burned 3 gal/ hour didn't report that and there are many tractors that burn that much fuel. That is why they have those 30 gallon tanks on some of them.

MarkC,

Careful, you're making a big assumption and I haven't even played with the numbers yet! Do you know something that I don't know about NH fuel consumption? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Aw come on....give us the numbers before you play with them. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Remember Jim, tablespoons per hour!

/ Diesel Gal/Hr #74
That's right, Wen, give him the business! With all the harassment I took taking a week or two to post my numbers, I think turnabout is fair play. That's what I was worried about: the numbers getting "played with" before we got 'em. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I care, PaulB. I thought you knew that already. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Now, if only we had some evidence that JimBinMI cares. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

MarkC, Wen and others,

I pulled out the receipts, and much to my dismay, they do not show accurate gallons purchased, only price paid, discount for off-road and no price per gallon. Actually one receipt shows that I bought 8.99 gallons but I only have a 6 gallon container and I have never bought deisel in any other containers. I guess I'll have to start over.

I thought about and typed a guesstimate but I didn't think that most of you would find it entertaining so I deleted it.

MarkC,

Can't use that excuse, had a wonderful dog but had to have him put down a few months ago. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I'm really bummed because I thought I had all of the info AND I believe that I get a really good gal/hr...I guess I should, it's only 18.5 hp. I think you're the guy to beat with the bigger engines though, your's does a great job on diesel!

JimBinMI - I'm very sorry to hear about your dog. I've been through that so many times that I made my wife wait 10 years to get one. Now we've got a little Pomeranian that run's everything. But he's 9 years old now and beginning to show the usual signs /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif.

What kind of dog did you have and for how long? Have you gotten another one yet? I'm now convinced that's the only answer. A new dog doesn't replace the old one, but it does lessen the pain a little.

As for the tractor gph - I'm very happy with it.

MarkC,

We had a buff colored Cocker Spaniel named "Dudley" got him when my daughter was about 2 1/2 and son was 6 months. He was about 12 yrs old and was a really good dog for the most part. I was there with him for his last breath, didn't want to be but glad I was! Son wanted to get another dog right away but we also have a cat, she's about 17 and showing age, wife wants her to go before we think about another dog. Funny thing, we rarely saw rabbits in the back yard when we had the Dudley, now we see them all of the time.

Dudley even had a really scraggely fox backed up against the house one time, I could see every tooth in the fox's mouth, had to scream at the dog to get him to look away from the fox and then the fox dissappeared. Two days ago, had a beautiful gray fox practically fly across the road in front of my daughter and I in the car, it was really cool looking.
