Diesel fuel

I had to buy fuel for my 3005 Saturday and couldn't get to the pump at Walmart so I went to a store that sold Shell. I got home and went to pour the diesel in the tractor and noticed that it was clear. I thought it was premium gas at first, it had very little diesel smell. Walmart's diesel has a greenish tint to it, bulk plant is off-road red. I added some Marvel oil to the tank, tractor ran fine. I have never seen clear diesel before. Doesn't seem as oily and smelly as offroad fuel. I won't be buying it from them again.

On-road fuel is usually clear with a slight brownish hue. Should not be a difference in smell or consistancy. Maybe kerosene? Was this pump dedicated for on-road fuel (I would assume so if at a gas station)? If so I wouldn't worry to much about it and top up with the trusted fuel of your choice.

Highway fuel looks far cleaner than what we think it should look and smell.

Shell has clear diesel...

First time I put some in my car, I thought it was strange. Kept the receipt just in case something happened. No problems...

Strange...Maybe it was #1 winter diesel.

Thanks for the replies, It was from an onroad pump(Shell). I mowed with the tractor for probably an hour and a half with no problem.

All depends on the terminal and/or refinery it's coming out of.

I don't have an idea of who's refineries or terminals happen to be around you. But for me, Marathon's has a slight blue hue to it, where as Ergon is crystal clear.

I know a trucker in my neck of the woods who only ran Shell before he retired. He said it gave him the best mpgs and never had quality problems. I've never ran it myself so I can't say.
