I'm about to purchase my 1st tractor, and 1st equipment I've every run with
diesel fuel. I was told by a guy I work with that there are different seasonal
blends of diesel, he had diesel gel in his tractor tank last winter
Is this true?

Also the diesel sold at gas stations, is for road use is there off road diesel available? Where is this purchased? I just figured out the home heating oil is basically diesel fuel, can this be used routinely, what about the seasonal grades?

These are fairly common questions so if you want several hours of enjoyment :D read through previous threads.

  • Yes, there are seasonal blends.
  • Yes, diesel can gel. That's why some people add products like PowerService year round to prevent this.
  • Some stations sell both on and off road diesel.
  • In some locations HHO = diesel fuel but not all. if it's the same in your area, you can use it routinely.
  • Add PowerService and you wont have to be concerned about seasonal grades (there are only 2, summer and winter).

Simplify your tractor life and use an additive year round. I use PowerService (White Bottle) double strength as recommended in the winter. I buy my ULSD from a high volume station that services diesel operators and the local school buses. This winter they added ~50% kerosene to their ULSD (They told me they did not trust the additive "mix" coming from the distributors :(.) which really jacked up the cost of ULSD , but I did not have the gelling problems I had the previous winter. I was ranting and raving here at TBN about ULSD alot the previous winter . Jay

Who in my area can tell me if HHO = diesel? And I assume HHO is no ULSD?

Call some local HHO suppliers.

I'm sure LBrown59 will step in and give you the definitive answer. You may have to wait a couple years for him to reply,....... ;)
