Diesel Fuel Rationing?

The issue with that is simply, not every retail outlet has a rail siding. The goods that travel by rail still need to be offloaded and placed on trucks for delivery. Even the trailer on rails have to be delivered by a semi, they don't somehow get delivered by magic.
Rail Sidings were everywhere around here at one time but almost all gone now as industry shifts or has left and streets realigned without sidings.

Still a few broad medians in the city that had tracks when I was a kid…

Yep… add it to the list.

Not quite as bad as when station wagons might also be commercial.

Dads friend owned a floor company and drove a station wagon full of samples and got dinged for no commercial plate!

Then again you would think commercial plate you could park in loading zone but my brother got a ticket on his F250. He went to court with his boss who had sent him on the clock to pick up plantings from the wholesale nursery and the officer did not show so tossed out…

Agree. That’s why the railroads are talking about port of entry and transcontinental transport. Trucks will always be needed for local shipments.

One of the things discussed at the rail conference I attended is that there are lots of funds available in the infrastructure legislation to rebuild local rail sidings and expand tracks.

Did not intend to go off topic other than being energy independant as a country seems like a no brainer no matter ones political leanings…

I do think it would take a total collapse for fuel to plummet and inflation alone will push price higher.

Thread pruned of politics, you know, those posts which violate the forum rules, you know, the rules you agreed to abide by when you registered.

Isn't this the rational used by Buffet for investing in rail?
He did more than invest, Berkshire owns 100% of BNSF. The HQ is just a few miles from here and I know a bunch of the higher ups as our kids went to school together.

Buffet does not buy for politics, he buys for long term profits. Still preaches, but doesn't practice.

Yep. They all left when American industry closed and moved overseas to much friendlier places to manufacture.
Now all we have is collapsed hulks of factories and piles of rusted junk here in the rust belt.
Saddest thing you’ll ever see.
Railroad tracks torn up, industrial businesses closed, people and businesses leaving, and no manufacturing jobs.

We’re on the way to collapse. Quite frankly, I dont know why is hasn’t already happened.

When things go to hell, it’s not those who stored food and fuel who survive… it’s those who can defend what they have, or take what is needed, with force.

All of a sudden, being vehemently against firearm ownership isn’t ideal.

There is a certain class of person who seems to always default to heavy-handed one size fits all (fits all the little people who don't count anyway). That class of person seems always to also be contributing to collectivist causes ,and they are too ignorant to understand than when the collectivists get the levers of power, all the wealth that made that class of person feel so high and mighty will be on the chopping block.

My family, fled Cuba after Castro's thugs started assassinating anyone who dared to own a little bit of land. They were dirt poor, lived in a cold water shack, and kept bees. But that wasn't poor enough for the collectivists.

I don't store up food.
If everything goes all to Mad Max, My stored ammo and weapons will take all the food I want.
Cool story bro. How many people do you think you'll be able to murder and steal from before you get unlucky and find someone better than you?

Haven't seen it here (rationing). The price is high enough that it imposes being frugal in use. ORD is currently pushing 5+ a gallon.

I actually ran my entire first cut of forage on 20 gallons by being frugal with it.

I actually thought he was referring to the deer population, not the sheep...

It'll be like what that guy said who jumped off the empire state building as he passed the 50th floor: "So far so good."

But it won't be murder. Murder is a term of art in the law and if there's no law then there's no murder.

Some police in MI have stopped regular patrols, as their fuel budgets are exhausted.

Flying through ORD a few weeks ago, I have NEVER in 20 years seen the grass and weeds so tall at that airport. Partially obscuring signage for taxiways. Clearly they made a choice to do the minimum of mowing this year.

Its fun. It’s all built back better. We are returning the earth to nature.
