I have heard several rumors about fuels and how similar they are like Jet fuel and kerosene being similar and diesel and #2 fuel oil are also the same. I know I have burned jet fuel in my kerosene heaters and never any isues but I have recently replaced my home furnace with a heat pump and now have about 200 gallons of fuel oil left. How close is this to off road deisel. I hear stories from grand pa telling me he would burn kerosene and fuel oil in his bulldoser when he could not get deisel and his supliment was motor oil added to the deisel. I guess my big question is what to do with 00 gallons of #2 fuel oil??

It always used to be that #2 fuel oil and off road diesel were the same thing. Not the same as on road LSD or ULSD.

Give it to me for my Kubota BX23 & the two BX1500 Kubotas.

Smells like diesel
burns like diesel
(don't taste it :p)
Probably is diesel
The only thing you might want to do is replace the filter cartridge on the tank and watch when you get near the bottom -- those home tanks tend to accumulate stuff in the bottom that is better left out of your tractor tank:D

I would run it through the tractor. If you are worried you could cut it 50/50 with some new fresh diesel fuel. In my area they don't sell enough heating oil to constitute them selling it so they simply fill the customers tanks with off road diesel. A good farmer buddy and welding shop owner heats both his shop and home with oil furnaces and runs diesel in them. He can write the diesel off with his business but don't tell anyone. So what I am saying is they are each substitutable for each other.

I bet c23380 has been running the higher priced on road stuff in his tractor for years when all along he had the exact same stuff right there at home in that tank that he could have been using all along.~!

I started up a oil delivery business for a company in Mass 3 years ago. Home heating oil and off road diesel came out of the same tanks at the major tank farms. If I sent a tanker to the supplier to get off road diesel he was always directed to exactly the same tanks. This comes up over and over and there is a lot of "opinion" posted.

If the stuff in the tank is a few years old then they are really the same, the new stuff will probably be ULSD. In the old days 2 oil might not been as pure as it is today. If it would burn and they could sell it...they would.

I wouldn't worry.
