I recently filled up at a service station on my way home from work.. about a mile away from home.. my car started missing like I had water in the tank. I spent 1/2 hour trying to start my car the next morning.

The next day or so I noticed they had all the pumps closed at the station. The tanker truck had put Diesal fuel in the Gas tanks. Well since then I've filled my tank up twice.. had the fuel filter replaced.. but still experience some sputtering at startup & initial acceleration.

Is there any fuel or injection cleaner additives that would help clear up this problem. Before I knew of the service station mishap.. I was thinking that my distributor might have gotten water in it from running through some high water.

The only way to get rid of it is to empty the tank and lines, otherwise it will be running rich all the time, backfiring, overheating, and destroying the catalytic convertor.

And based on your experience, I'd have that service station do this for you (as well as reimburse you for the fuel filter).

Thanks guys.. well the service station is actually a convient store w/ fuel pumps. I've worked on plenty of vehicles before.. jeep, trucks, etc.. but on this Firebird RamAir.. there is zero room to get at anything.. you can't even see the spark plugs. My other problem is I have zero extra time w/ work and running the farm. Thanks again!

Take the bill of a pro mechanic to the convenience store and have them pay for the reapir.

Call the service station and ask them exactly how they propose to "make you whole." I expect they will have their insurance carrier contact you right away. The vehicle should be inspected, serviced, and repaired as necessary by a qualified facility entirely at the insurance company's expense, including towing and rental reimbursement.

Don't settle for less.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. My thoughts exactly!

We had this happen to a new 2002 Ford SD F250. It was a brand new truck being delivered to us (fleet) by a driver, came from an upfitter. The next day after it was delivered to our office, one of the guys went to head out and it would not run. So we called the Ford dealer and they sent out a tow truck to get it. Took them a few hours to figure out the tank was full of diesel fuel. I can't recall what or if they charged us but I do recall the had to replace the spark plugs + some other things and flush out the fuel system. It ran perfect when we got it back. The service manager said that it was not the first time he had seen this happen.

When I called out fleet manager and told him, he said that those temps they hire to shuttle the trucks had done that to one other one also.

Well I did some calling yesterday.. it was a High's store.. but the phone for that store was nothing but a busy signal.. so I called their corporate office. The lady took all my info.. she said the tanker company is footing the bill.. and that they will contact me.

I put about 500 miles on the car a week driving to work.. it's a 97 Pontiac Firebird RamAir w/ 130,000+ miles on it. I've never had to have a tune up.. brakes lasted to 100,000.. but I still get 19-21 mpg. The car is stock except for for the electronic control module I had upgraded w/ a racing module. I don't race.. I learned long ago.. if you need your vehicle to get to work.. better not tear it up. Plus.. tires just cost too much money.

Guess it could be a good time for a tuneup.. I have new wires & plugs I bought already. Thanks again for all the replies.. looks like I'm going to taken care of w/ the costs. One less thing! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Don't forget -- Highs owes you for the gasoline that you paid for but didn't get. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
