Yep, we got a decent soaking yesterday. Poured rain the ENTIRE time I was driving from Knoxville to Athens to the seminar I was putting on. Continued to POUR while I was carrying the projector inside...continued to POUR while I carried the screen inside...continued to POUR while I carried the laptop, materials inside....

Yes, about 20 minutes AFTER I carried everything inside, it slowed down to a mere drizzle and I was soaked

Isn't that just the way it works!!

I'm still glad for what we got though and NEVER EVER in my life have I yearned for rain. I always view "droughts" as a time when the grass grows slow and I won't have as much yardwork...this year though, the yard is turning to dirt and I had to water (thanks to my 100 gpm well!)

This morning we had 0.7" at the house. Twenty three miles west at the office we had 1.5". I have never been so happy to have cool wet nasty weather.

Well Guys, we live on what was once beautiful Lake Sidney Lanier in north Georgia--You know the area of the "Water Wars" and we only received approximately .75" over the last 3 days(Mon-Wed). It is really sad. Our "Four Mile Creek" cove now looks like a soccer field and the creek that runs thru the cove to Lake Lanier is barely a stream 3-4' wide and 4-6" deep if that. We are not too far north of Buford Dam--the arena of controversy of where the Army Corps of Engineers operates.

The first pic is what our cove looked like in March of 2007 taken from our dock.

The second pic is from Aug 2006 looking from our dock when we were also in a drought before the rains came and filled the lake back up somewhat.

The third Pic is also from Aug 2006 in the back part of the cove which is where the creek comes from before coming in front of our dock and going on into the large part of Lake Lanier... Currently the cove looks more like this area. Unfortunately I haven't taken current pics....maybe tomorrow.

SAD, SAD state of affairs

The rain has stopped here after three or so days. Lots of slow steady rain last night early this morning. Looks like the area got 2-3 inches of rain at a minimum. A private weather station near my house showed over 7". Many of the online private weather stations showed no rain even after a day or so of heavy rain. I think the owners had not kept the gauge clean since there has not been any rain to guage.

We are now about 6 inches below average. We supposedly entered the year below normal and the winter is forcast to be dry so next summer could be interesting if the forcast holds true.

Later,
Dan

Finally got some measurable rain. 1 1/2" Thank the Lord for that and hope He'll allow us to get a little more. Doesn't look like it in the next few days though
