It was looking like the western half of the drought area was going to get a few inches of rain yesterday and today, how about you eastern guys in Georgia and the Carolinas. Did you guys get enough to get runoff?

I think we set the mark this week for the wettest year on record in parts of Oklahoma.

I should have checked the radars before posting.

I guess this weather system is cut off from the jet-stream and is moving really slowly. I hope it hangs together long enough for everyone in the far SE to get some rain out of it.

I think North Georgia might have gotten some pretty good scattered showers in a few places, but nothing yet to fill those impoundments that are so low. It would take a good wet month just to get a start on catching up with the deficit. If something doesn't happen before next Summer, Atlanta is going to be in a mess.

Funny thing. I am about 100 miles due South of Atlanta, and I bet we've had 20-25 inches of rain since July 4. Many of the systems that would normally go through N. GA came right across the fall line or just a little north of it. Our drought had been so bad through the Summer and Fall of '06, and the Spring of '07, that the farm ponds and rivers here still are way low. The Flint River, about 1 1/2 miles from where I sit, has sand bars with knee high grass; there hasn't been enough water to kill it in over a year. I lost a bunch of pine trees to drought last year, but the rains we've had since July have replenished the soil moisture enough so that isn't happening now.

I think this is going to make some states, municipalities, and even some landowners re-think water use and conservation in the future.

Here in the Panhandle of FL we have been very dry since about Feb......... in fact where I live in Jackson County FL we have been the driest county in the state for most of the year. Many of the farmers here either didn't bother, or only planted there peanuts/cotton if it was under irrigation. Neighbor just down the road put in about 200 acres of corn and it just got toasted.....

We did get about 6" of rain over a 2 day period last week, and it was welcome........but just to little too late....

I'm about as "northwest" as you can get and still be "southeast". I'm in central Kentucky. Until monday morning, we were (depending on which TV station you listened to) from 9" to 12" behind on rain compared to yearly averages.

We were DRY!

Along about noon monday, it started raining. It hasn't quit yet. At 4PM yesterday, I emptied 6" out of my rain gauge. We got another 2.4" overnight. Still falling. From the predictions, we should see some sunshine later today.

With the rains being fairly steady, we've recovered somewhat. Summer is over, so no real help on this past seasons crops, but at least we're recovering some ground water, ponds and lakes are re-filling some, and the fire potential is all but non existant now.

And we're just now approaching our usual "rainy season".

So, YEP, we got rain.

We've gotten a good soaking so far from this storm system. Radar shows more on the way. We can really use it. The springs feeding both our ponds have dried up, and there is almost no water left in them. We need weeks of rain to catch up.
