I can understand people’s distrust. I will not be surprised if in a few years they come out with all sorts of problems the vaccine has caused, most of which is most likely to be internet chit chat. I have a problem with parents not getting proven vaccines for their kids based on a bunch of crap they read that is untrue like autism.

This discussion seems to have made everyone cranky lately. It was interesting and educational for a while. Now, not so much.

And the covid vaccines were very much tested.

Pasted from University of Maryland Medical School

------------------------------------------------

Many people are astonished by the unprecedented speed of COVID vaccine testing.

The vaccine development process — for COVID and any vaccine —involves many layers of study, testing and review. According to The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, vaccines usually take an average of 10-15 years to create.

And yet, the COVID vaccines were developed in less than a year.

The vaccines for the novel coronavirus went through the same layers of review and testing as other vaccines. Due to the dire nature of the pandemic, certain barriers to development, related to funding and manufacturing, were removed.

To understand how this is possible, it is important to know how the vaccine development process typically works and how the COVID vaccine was created.

The discussions are still interesting to me!
I agree. I’m pretty opinionated and it can be frustrating because I’m always right of course, but I do try to see other points of view. I often realize what I think, someone else is going to think the exact opposite, trust me I know, I have a 26 year old son.

My wife once complained that, every time we get into an argument, I always think my opinion is right. If I didn't think my opinion was right, it wouldn't be my opinion!

Given my side effects and if I had to go back and do it again, i'd do it again. I track infectious disease for a living, so the past year and change has been pretty crazy for me. I've seen the effects, cooccurring diagnosis, associated procedures, etc studied over long term. I've had to track patients through the course of the illness. Lots of people say it's nothing, and some get a light version of it and think they're validated. but i've seen lives and families destroyed time after time by the thousands. It's just not fun. So when I got the call and said it was my turn, I went and took the wife. I've also been studying the vaccine and it's side effects from a clinical standpoint since late January. 6.8 million vaccinated, 6 died, but 6.8 million got covid, over 100k dead. It wasn't a hard decision for me.

And the vaccine isn't 100% effective. You can still get the virus, and transmit the virus, but it lessens the likelihood of you getting a severe case, or even a noticeable case. You want to take your chances, that's fine, but I don't understand people's need to rage against the vaccine, or masks.

IMO vaccines are like 'exposures' triggering the body's immune responses. (nothing like statins or steroides, not 'drugs') I suggest that there are three possible/likely such 'exposures', say up to one contact and two shots in either order. I also suggest that a difficult reaction to any of them are signs of of them challenging (hopefully bolstering) one's ability to cope with the others.

We're not all the same age, in the same state of health, or have the same genetics. That's where 'statistics' (however precise or not) take a 'bigger picture'. btw, AIDS, Zike, and Ebola weren't hoaxes and nobody is known to have been injected ith a microchip but Bigfoot. (It's how he eludes our scrutiny. ;))

It is simulating exposure. You run a fever, get chills, sweat, and feel like crap not because of hte virus, but because of the immune response. You get hot to cook the virus, you expel mucus through every orifice to get it out of your body, and your immune system gets rid of hte rest. So given a dead virus or something that looks like a virus, your body recognizes it as a threat without there being an actual threat. Then it triggers an immune response and you generally feel like crap. 7 hours after the shot, I spiked a 101 fever, had chills and couldn't get warm enough, nose running, congested, I was a mess. but 8 hours after that, it completely went away like I was never sick. It was like flicking a switch because my body had fought against an enemy that was just a cardboard cutout of the enemy.

Now my body has the knowledge to fight the virus off so if I get it, I can stamp it out quick before it replicates and overwhelms my immune system. The tricky part with this virus is you're contagious before you're symptomatic, and that's not a characteristic found in the flu or the common cold. You have to be exhibiting symptoms to spread those around. Covid is special. You can have it, spread it and pass it on to others unknowingly, and never actually know that YOU have it or have had it. That's the whole premise behind these crappy masks thing. You keep your germs to yourself, as does everyone else. It greatly reduces the spread of the air that you breathe out's transmissibility.

The big mistake was making this political, then people will choose sides. Nothing about this is political, and now, it's still somehow political. CDC, faucci, everyone. But it's also a bit what is the end goal. Eradication? Just enough so we don't overwhelm the healthcare system? Enough so we don't ruin the economy? It's hard to determine the answer if you don't know or understand the question. People keep saying many wild claims against left or right. If the goal is eradication, it's simple. Everyone wearing a mask in public settings, it'll completely die off in a matter of months. But everyone has to do it because most people doing it are protecting others from spread, but not themselves. So the few can spread it unknowingly in an hour long costco trip or church service by not wearing a mask. Wearing a mask doesn't make you a sheep, it doesn't mean the big government has won, and it is mildly annoying and I can't wait until the threat is over.

But the threat will likely never be over. At least not in the near future. India over there is doing 400k cases a day, which is producing all sorts of variants, and eventually it'll render the vaccine ineffective. So where does that leave us? The answer is I don't know. People complain about hte science always changing, but that's how science works. You form a hypothesis based on the information available. If new information becomes available, the hypothesis must be reevaluated and may change. That being said, in the early days where they said no mask is necessary, it was a political move. They were trying to prevent chaos, and let the hospitals and doctors get the proper protective masks they needed, because they would bear the brunt of it. Then they said double masks would protect you better. Which is 100% accurate, taken in context. 2 air filters is better than 1. Something that makes it through the first may get caught in the second. Being that n95 filters down to about 90nm, but covid ranges from 50-150nm, some may pass through, but get caught in the second mask. But hey, that's common sense. If you had double the thread, would you get more traction?

The science of it is not super hard, people could figure it out if they took the time and stopped paying attention to the media or white house. We're americans, we can think for ourselves. Make our own decisions. But like science and hypothesis you need the most correct, accurate information to make these decisions. And that information is changing all the time. So you have to keep reading, and researching, and learning.

That's why it was a nightmare. Unprepared is a recurring theme in dreams. For years after I graduated I had dreams about showing up for a final without having studied..

I used to have that dream often. Or, it was finals time and I had never been to a class, or I couldn’t find the room for the final.
Thanks for dragging up that nightmare, now will probably have it again.

I have noticed two things since I was vaccinated. First, my sleeping is much better. For years now I could only get about 6hrs of sleep and I would toss and turn and would hardly ever have dreams like I use to. Now, I have good dreams and I get 8hrs of solid sleep.

Second, I'm building muscle when working like when I was younger. For several years I would do work and all I would get is sore. Now I'm building muscle and feel great. Was it the vax? Don't know.....I'm sure not going to complain though.

I haven't been sleeping too well lately...I keep having this dream that I'm trapped in a giant clothes dryer...I end up tossing and turning all night...!

People need to read Fatjays posts. Is he an expert? I don’t know exactly what his job is but he knows a lot more about it than rest of us and 99% more about it than what you read or hear on the news.

I am a land surveyor with 36 years experience. That is one of the few areas I consider myself an expert. If I post about that, I consider it to be good info. People need to listen to the experts and get an informed opinion.

Social sites on the Internet are not exactly the best place to seek factual information especially when it comes to controversial subjects...

The "experts" said, "we need two weeks of restrictions in order to flatten the curve".

That wasn't enough for them. Then the experts said something else.

I'm no expert. I'm sick of experts.

I was at Lowes yesterday picking up lumber. I have stopped wearing the mask. Most people there still had them. They look at you kind of funny sometimes. I don’t care. Not wearing that stupid thing any more.
I was at Lowes day before yesterday, wearing a mask, even though i've been fully vaccinated, because i had to pick up a piece of pipe to replace a bad leak. That's why i was in Lowes, the reason i was wearing an N95 was because i know some people that have not been vaccinated, will not wear a mask. The reason i was taking that precaution, is i'm going to be going to my sister's place in two weeks to take care of her while her husband is out of town. The reason i'm taking care of my sister, is because she has cancer and her white blood count isn't good, so her immune system is compromised and she CAN'T take any vaccine.

I get some people are scared that's ok, but those the have made this pandemic a fake freedom thing, i have no patience for these "freedom fighters"
