Thanks for everyone's replies. Good fortune came and brought 3 Ford cast iron weights from a 1600 subcompact tractor. Each weighs 32#, so total of 96#. They look like they could have been original equipment, as they fit nicely onto the 9.5" wide front bracket. Each weight is 3" wide. The three weights are enough to counter a 42" tandem disc, 5' landscape rake, 4' rear blade, and single row JD 71 planter unit I have for the tractor. I don't want to overload the front end too much , as I don't know how much it can take before the excess weight starts to do some damage to front axle components when there isn't a rear mounted implement to counter the front weight. vvm
