Hi,
I am a new owner of a new B7800. While I was out working with it today, I was driving in 2WD, when I was returning to the barn. I went to raise the 3 pt hitch, but grabbed the 2WD-4WD lever by mistake, and threw it in to 4WD on the fly. I noticed a grinding noise. Did I fry the transimission?

thanks for the help. rugger@maine.rr.com

hi,
I also own a B7800.I shift mine on the fly all the time. All i do is slow down to a crawl and lightly pull it into 4wd.To take it out of 4wd ,I go slow in the oposite direction while lightly taking out of 4wd.Just make sure you are never spining the wheels when going into 4wd or2wd.This also goes for the diff. lock.THe grind you heard if not lasting over second may have not done any harm.

rugger; Probably not. I've ground gears a few times myself. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Does the tractor still work? Does it make wierd noises at the present? I hope you didn't hurt anything, but if everything still seems fine, I wouldn't be overly concerned. Just get used to what lever does what. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use a B2910 which is the same basic tractor as the B7800. Been there, done that. Don't worry about it unless you STILL hear grinding.

John is right. I have pushed on the wrong lever with no problems other than the nosie made warning me that it's something I should not be doing.
Since you mention the FWD lever. I'll mention another item that keeps coming up occasionally. When wearing shorts, that lever and the PTO lever can get caught on pants legs when getting off tractor. This will leave you hanging by your pant leg. If you are lucky the shorts rip. If not, it gets kind of tight between the legs. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Please don't ask how I know this. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
