I checked my Kubota L3710 GST sight glass last weekend and the fluid level was low. Well, the Kubota dealership was closed as it was a Sunday, so I went to Tractor Supply and bought some of their hyd/tranny fluid which stated it could be used in place of Kubota UDT. I poured about a gallon in which brought the oil level back to full. Is there any problem with mixing brands? The next time I am by the dealership I will get the UDT but I was in a pinch and decided to make do with what I could get. Thanks!

I think you'll be ok with that ,IMO people put too much credence on using particular brands, anymore the manufacturers have to meet api(american petroleum institute) ratings and if you read the bottles for that reading (meets or exceeds api requirements)
The only thing you have to do is pic the color of the bottle you like...
But if you have a newer vehicle I would use synthetic lubricates in them because it vertually eliminates wear...
In older vehicles that have been using regular oils the wear is already there so using synthectics at that point is not going to give you as much benefit ...
OK now let me have it!! All you chemical engineers

I wouldn't worry about mixing hydro fluid if the jug said it was compatible with Kubotas UDT. I'd be more concerned about why you were down a gallon. Any leaks or a new hydro implement?

Good point JJT. I brought that very topic up under the Kubota operating forum. Since I had no leaks and use no hydraulic equipment I was quite curious as to why I needed to add oil. The response was that since the tractor has low hours there probably was air in the system and the oil eventually displaced the air. Made since to me since I cannot see any other reason I would have had to add oil. Everything works fine, no visible leaks, changed motor oil with no sign of outside fluids, all is fine. Except wondering where the disappearing oil went. I will go on the air theory as that seems to make sense.
