I have a 68 Ford 3000 gas tractor. The three point lift operates well with one catch- no load. With a moderate load 600 lbs. it will not lift unless I step on the draft control lever. I'm relatively sure this is not how it is intended to work. New hydraulic fluid to recommended level. It works fine when I do this so I feel that I am getting sufficient pressure off the pump. I use the tractor daily so it is difficult to shut it down. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Tractor Supply Company has a reasonably priced shop manual with step by step adjustment procedure and pictures. I recommend you have it handy while making adjustments.

If have a shop manual. It tells me how to make adjustments but it doesn't tell me what to adjust for a particular problem. I've tried the flow control with no success.
