I lost 25 pounds on the Keto type diet in 2.5 months while dropping my a1c.

hope you are feeling better
sometimes it takes a while to try new things and post back

my primary doc scolded me yesterday for being 30 pounds overweight
you are your own worst enemy

I guess I am

I researched Ozempic/Wegovy; it really does work. But I don't qualify so it's 985 bucks for four weekly shots and you never get off it
can't afford that
Changing your diet is A LOT cheaper. Keto is a proven solution to reverse T2 diabetes. If you need help, there are a lot of resources. I am on one of the programs and it's amazing the results. Just understand that the longer you've been damaging your body, the longer it will take to heal. The healing also seems to work in stages. Weight, BG, A1C, cholesterol, inches all come at different times. Some people on the program I'm doing will have their weight loss stall, but during that time, inches come off.

I had very similar. I think your goal of just 6 for A1C is too pessimistic. Stay with the changes and I'm sure you'll be low 5s. Just give it time and learn to recognize your changes to your diet should be permanent.

I hope you are right - I'll let you know.
My friend is on the keto diet longer than me and went from 11 to 5.9 this year.
It's an amazing change.

My A1C was always good until a year and a half ago when mine went to a 6. I get a checkup about every 4-6 months due to other issues.
My vitamin d level was about 25% of what it should be at the same time.
Dr said the usual lay off the goodies and starches plus take a d supplement.
Started taking a multi vitamin with 125% of the d needed. Plus watched what I ate religiously. Next checkup my A1C was 5.9 and my d was at 30% of what I should have.
Now I take the multi vitamin plus two d supplements thats 500% vitamin d altogether and my A1C has dropped to 5.7 and Im eating what I want.
For some reason there is a correlation between my vitamin d levels and my A1C.

correlation between my vitamin d levels and my A1C
Google says >

What is the relationship between vitamin D and HbA1C?

Lower Vit D levels are associated with poor glycemic control. That means Low vit D high HbA1C. Vitamin D deficiency is prevalent in Diabetes mellitus type 2 so by supplementation of vitamin D we can improve glycemic controls in patients of Diabetes mellitus type 2.

I really do like my cheeseburgers cooked at home
but now I've learned to have different burgers
so I alternate between beef, chicken, turkey, salmon and black bean veggie burgers.
If I kind of burn the latter, not bad...
salmon is my least favorite since it comes out dry; maybe I should wrap them in foil first. ?
they aren't very thick.
turkey burgers always get larger when cooked vs most that get smaller

I think anything leaner than 85 doesn't make a good burger, and would rather have 80 percent of
better quality beef if I'm not going to eat it often.
free range, grass fed, admit I don't pay much attention to that. Maybe I should.

I've been taking Vitamin D supplements for years. Good thing I guess.

I get LOTS of sunshine 340 days a yr. My vitamin D should be okay but it hasn't been checked. For me it's homemade burgers without the bun when I grill them.
Breakfast is eggs and meat, Lunch is a super salad preferably with meat, and dinner is meat and veggies.

I always like to look at the studies whenever possible. I know that there is a VERY large group of activist attempting to demonize anything related to eating meat. Even TED was afraid to publish a talk from a woman that had autoimmune issues disappear when she switch to a carnivore diet. She was only asking for research to be done in the talk. She wasn't even advocating people do it.

From the study... "In both females and males, those with higher total red meat intake had higher BMI and total energy intake, were less physically active, were more likely to be current smokers, and were less likely to use multivitamins" Certainly all these things would be clear causes for correlation. If they tracked the number of carbs, that the individuals consumed, they'd also find a correlation to T2D.

Study Confirms Link Between Red Meat and Diabetes Risk

The actual Study:
"Over 5,483,981 person-years of follow-up, we documented 22,761 T2D cases. Intakes of total, processed, and unprocessed red meat were positively and approximately linearly associated with higher risks of T2D."

By their own numbers leas than one half of one percent of the people in the study were associated with T2 diabetes. Whereas 10-20% of smokers get cancer.
It sounds like whoever wrote that paper had a preconceived conclusion. (n)

Still rocking the Keto and Turmeric. My lower a1c has relieved about 90% of my arthritis in 6 months of this dietary change. I do take a joint supplement but the supplement alone was not doing much until the diet change.
Been learning about the importance of proper Zinc levels in the body in relation to insulin control. Important for you men with prostate problems too.

Maybe we should share the supplements we take?

You are looking at the numbers wrong. You might be comparing people with people-years?

By the end of the follow-up periods, nearly 22,800 people developed type 2 diabetes, and those who ate the most total red meat had a 62% higher risk of developing the disease, compared with people who ate the least. Eating the most processed or unprocessed red meat was linked with a 51% and 40% higher risk of type 2 diabetes, respectively.

The Keto diet - "More Heart Trouble for the Keto Group After an average of nearly 12 years of follow-up, individuals on a keto-like diet had more than double the risk of having several major cardiovascular events, such as blockages in the arteries that needed stents, heart attack, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease."

There are as many variations on a Keto diet as there are people. Certainly a diet of red meat only is going to have some bad effects. My Keto diet staple is chicken and vegetables. Monitor your health to know what is best for you.

'Keto', is that some oriental person? me, I'm totally carnivorous. No vegetable and fruit diet here. Gimme lean beef anyday. I do consume fruit but in moderation and so far at 74 years old, no issue with it and I tend to consume meat that I have raised myself or shot during season.

Keto is responsible for bringing down my a1c which was bordering on type 1 diabetic.
Home grown beef and wild game are good protein sources. A balanced diet is important for a long life. It's easy to get out of whack and have weird little problems as we age.
You need to mix in a salad :D

   / Diabetes #438
Scoot, I do eat salads with every home meal. Wife insists and I comply and usually topped with Raspberry Vinaigrette. Helman's brand.

Not so much when eating out unless it's a good beanery. Got deathly ill from a tainted salad once long ago and that reminder is always there.

that bad Mexican lettuce with e coli likely got you 5030.
certain veggies I will only buy organic and even that doesn't guarantee you cleanliness.

at least half our plate should be veggies. I think we all know that.
but do as I say, not as I do...
Half veggies, a quarter starch and a quarter meat/protein.
pretty simple to remember.
too often due to my love of bread I'm at a quarter veggies, half starch and a quarter meat/fish
and since starch often turns into sugar, that comes back to bite you in the butt.

was told I was my own worst enemy by primary doc a month ago.
As he sat there smugly without an additional ounce on him, insinuating I just needed better control.
well thanks for telling me something I didn't already know Doc...

just got home today from three week rv trip. Ate out much more than normal.
Restaurant food is loaded with fat, sugar and salt.
but the crab remoulade was worth it
