Deutz-Allis KS 1.50 Rake question

You could try at the european Profi forum, we have loads of this type of rakes in Europe. Deutz and Kuhn haying equipment are popular for export to eastern Europe.

Depending on the age and the model of the rake as well as where it was produced, it may be the same as some of the Vicon models.
The Parent company for Vicon (Kverneland Group) also produce Deutz-Fahr equipment under licence to Deutz. These were produced in the old Deutz-Fahr tractor factory in Gottmadingen in the south of Germany up until about 18 months ago. The production has been closed there now and shifted to the Taarup factory in Denmark at Kerteminde. They only have a design office and tech service in Gottmadingen now.
Is it a single rotor or twin rotor machine?
If you look on the id plate and check if it has either "Kverneland Group" or if it is an older machine it could have "Greenland" on it, then there is every chance that it crosses over with a Vicon machine. I think it will also mention Gottmadingen on it as well.

Trac-tech: I got in touch with my neighbor this afternoon. He said that it is a deutz-allis model ks 1.50 rake with 8 spokes, and 3 tines on each spoke, one gearbox or roter. Upon inspection of the tag and the manual that he got from our so-called dealer, it has the location Gottmadingen on it. His question is what model of Vicon rake would this correspond to? The manual he has is an operation manual, only, with only 5 pages of info, translated into about 5 different languages. What he is looking for is a parts diagram of the input side of the gearbox, from the driveshaft back into the gearbox. The manual he has also has the model #'s 6550D, and 6550,DN listed on it, not sure whether that is a Deutz-fahr # or a vicon #. Thanks for your response on this, and your help, DaveTrac-Tech said:

What paint colour does it have ? I suppose its Fahr red, which means its of way before the Greenland takeover, and its a genuine DF product.
On the other hand, on your side of the pond it could also be painted Allis orange, which is just 1 shade brighter.
Greenland didnt take over Deutz haying machinery untill the early 90's. Yours is definately older, judging from the model number.

Do you think it could line up with an early Andex rake? Even though it is old, the Andex is the ancestor to the current machine and so would still be in line with the Vicon-PZ models? This is even though thankfully they have become way better than they were? I'm picking the 6550 numbers are the production model numbers. I'm also guessing that this is a 1.5 meter single rotor machine? Do you know when they started to produce that style of machine at Gottmadingen? I was thinking maybe late eighties early ninties? I could be wrong but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

I stopped by this afternoon, and looked at the rake in question, it is definitely DF/DA green, the problem he is having is that the dealer wants in the neighborhood of $800 for the drive shaft, from the second u-joint back to the gearbox. When he dis-assembled the shaft from the 4 bolts at the gearbox front, there was 1 sealed bearing, and about 3/4"-7/8"(19-25MM) end play in the shaft, causing the pinion gear to skip under load. I told him that my guess is that there are supposed to be 2 bearings on the shaft, close to the pinion gear, or else a spacer has been chewed up or lost. I also told him that chances are that the pinion gear can be purchased separately, if it can be measured, and described correctly. Perhaps I am wrong, but many times the dealers are just trying to make a quick buck, by trying to sell the whole assembly for $800, when a pinion gear and a standard bearing can be had for much less. I have been able to get a copy of a parts book for a KS 1.70 Deutz rake. I think it should be the same, just a little bigger. It is too large a file for me to post here, if you pm me your e mail address, I can send it via e mail. Then you can see if it looks the same or not and try your local Vicon dealer?
