I want to add a loader bucket to this and run a 20kw pto generator, right now I have a 10 Kw now and I think the engine is about maxed on on power. Anyone have some experience with these small engines. I was thinking about increasing injector pressure or size and custom manifolds to let it breathe a little better. If I can get another 5-8 hp out of her it would be great.
Also having trouble keeping a charge, any mod ideas on altenator swap?

I am guessing the tractor has mechanical injection pump. You can't increase fuel pressure but you can increase the amount of fuel injected to the engine. You can increase power at constant RPM required by the generator up to the point of stoichiometric ratio fuel/oxygen. After this point increasing fuel has no effect because there is not enough oxygen to burn it.

The PTO speed is usually selected at maximum fuel efficiency point (maximum torque). Maximum power (about 20% to 25% higher) peaks at maximum RPM. If your generator is belt driven then you can change the gear ratio to run the generator at higher engine RPM. The trade off is higher fuel consumption/kW produced.

Thanks but I thought all mechanical injection pumps were adjustable? Should be an adjustment just like a propane regulator built into the pump? an adjsuting nut increasing spring pressure then I can build some manifolds and do some porting to match the airflow with fuel. Higher fuel pressaure should result in better atomization also. Played with some bigger stuff and lots of gas engines, just not too familiar with the parts on this little 18hp.

They are adjustable in sense of maximum fuel delivery and maximum engine speed. The fuel pressure depends on the injector and has nothing to do with the amount of fuel delivered.

Electronic fuel (common rail) systems work on different principle. There is a constant pressure maintained in the rail and the injectors are solenoid valves. The amount of fuel depends on the length of time the solenoid is opened. Since the system is electronic the amount and timing of the fuel delivery can be mapped depending on speed, load, engine and air temperature, air manifold pressure etc to achieve best efficiency and/or power.

thanks I'll try getting a little more fuel out of the stock pump, anyone know of an bigger injector or a tech than can open them up. Doesn't look like more than an aftnoon of manifold fabbing to increase airflow. maybe just some simple porting and curve radiusing.

If it helps you any I run my Generac 20KW PTO generator with my NH - TC 29 D...it has about 26 PTO HP and it puts out enough power to the generator to run our whole house...Your tractor has about 15 PTO hp I believe so it will run the generator ...you just may not get the full 20KW...It is OK to have more generator than tractor..:)

The book I have for the 10 kw generator says it needs 12 pto hp so I figure 20kw would need about 24 pto HP, maybe 20 as a minimum. I have a geothermal unit to heat my house and it takes 10kw when running elctric back up so I would need at least the full 20kw. Not to mention air compressors, welders and plasma cutters.

The injection pump is variable volume pump. There is an adjustment (mechnaical stop) in the pump for maximum fuel volume delivered in each stroke.
Air-fuel ratio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Diesel Fuel Injection System - Video
There is lot of info on the Internet
Google diesel fuel injection

Any links on where to find the adjustment on that type of injection pump. The above links only offer very basic information, I already know engine building by calculating displacement, compression ratios and volumetric efficiency. I am a oil burner mechanic, gasfitter, plumber and locksmith so I just need some links to those actual parts. I agree, love that internet everytime I work on someones vehicle, the internet can tell you what is wrong and how to fix it without even looking at it. Just can't seem to find anything on the 5215. Thanks everybody, every little tidbit of info helps with the bigger picture.

Is this what your injection pump looks like? it is one of a kind. You cant put in a bigger one or even find another one with ease. I do have a source for a new one but it costs some $600. Plus you have to send in the old pump or you add $100 to that. Just speaking from experiences with my fuel injection pump.
