Years and years ago I rented a dethaching machine for my yard...it really pulled a lot of dead stuff out. But my yard at that time was about an acre. Now, I mow about 41/2 to 5 acres, it would be wayyy to slow. It's more like a pasture converted to a yard. I have a lot of spots like this. Whats the best tool to pull this stuff out?

if it were me i would just sow grass seed and spike it in and this dead stuff will turn into fertlizer later on.

Is that the remains of a weedy grass that spreads out real close to the ground? If it what it's looks like, it takes over wherever it gets started. I was fighting that in the garden last summer.

Maybe getting more vigor into the normal grass with fertilizer and/or lime, and letting it get taller before mowing will choke out the weedy stuff?
