I just ordered my first JD a 6220L and my dealer tells me it will be around the end of April before it arrives. Is this about the length of time it takes to get a new JD. I would like to hear from someone that has recently had one delivered. I have always had Blue, but they just do not make the tractor I need. I hope this 6220L is as good as I have heard. Thanks Joe

For better or worse, that sounds pretty typical, and not just for JD. I just took delivery on a 4110 that took about 50 days. If the unit would have had to come from the assembly line rather than through the dealer transfer program, it would have taken another 30-45 days, or so.

If a tractor model is not in inventory at the dealer where your purchase is made, the JD system offers a dealer two options. First, and fastest, is to find a machine on the dealer-to-dealer transfer program. This is where a spec'ed machine is found at another dealer and the dealer with the inventory agrees to give it up. The second option is to order one off the line.

Regardless, the JD system requires a dealer to piece together your order with all of the new parts arriving at a reasonable interval to the arrival of the tractor. Getting loaders, bucket level indicators, block heaters, mowers, attachments, and other options to the shop is part of the first step. Of course, it takes quite a few hours to put one together as ordered once the parts get to the shop. This is considerably different than our experiences with new cars because tractors are rarely "loaded up" with options on the lot, there are no real "trim lines" to choose from, and the production of tractors occurs on a more demand-responsive schedule compared to the auto industry, which produces vehicles on a demand-anticipation schedule.

Bottom line: your wait seems about right, and even blue tractors that are ordered versus purchased off the lot will take awhile. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Especially since it sounds like you did your research to find the right tractor for your needs.

bigpete,

Good post on your part, lots of useful information. I ordered my 4210 at the end of the year and asked them to hold off for spring delivery so time wasn't an issue for me. Since I didn't require any unique equipment I just assumed the tractor would be found somewhere in my area as there are so many JD dealerships. When I was shopping one salesman told me the majority of the 4000-Ten series were built for stock with 4wd, E-hydro, DSCV and mid-pto as most buyers wanted those features. I will have to check with my salesguy and learn if mine was built to my specs or just obtained from another dealership.

I just purchased my new 110tlb and the are telling me that it is scheduled for a mid april delivery as well. While this does not affect me other than the fact that I want to play around with it I would like it sooner rather than later. I know they are going to build it for me since I cannot possibly believe that there is another person who would order all the little pidly option that I desired on this unit. It would be nice to have it now so it could start paying for itself but I will have to wait for 6+ weeks. He said there is always the chance it will come in early but I am not planning on holding my breath on it.

My dealer called today, the 6620L I ordered on 1/27 got here today. They still have to install the loader but should have it next week. Deere said delivery around 4/29 and its going to be close. Joe

I know the beginning of this thread is several months old, but I learned some info that might be helpful to a new member.
I just finalized the deal on a new John Deere and in the process was told that unlike car dealers, tractor dealers do not own their inventory. John Deere owns all the inventory, which, in theory, makes dealer exchanges easier. Any competing dealer giving up inventory is not losing money on the deal and they'll be getting more inventory to sell in the exchange. I'm sure there are exceptions to this, but I gather it's the way the majority of the system works.
