deisel tank leaking 4520

I recently posted a message about my 4520 cut leaking deisel from under the plastic cover that surrounds the gas tank. talk to a mechanic and he said i possibly could have a cracked fuel tank. when i push slightly on the plastic cover it increases the flow. has anyone had aleak in their fuel tank and if so how did you fix it? is the tank a plastic
material? is it something a person should attempt or let the john deere people do it.

I expect Deere would just replace the tank, rather than any attempt to repair it.
I'd think it would be prudent to find out just where the leak is at, and if it really is a cracked fuel tank.
