I have to laugh. So I have 1145hrs on the tractor the head gasket go last Friday.Thursday the starter went the third one but for the second one in 6 months.
Now I do the work my self where i have experience in diesel engines.plus the warranty is off the tractor completely.I remove the head cylinder #4 full of coolant.thank you to the site i find out there is an up dated tin head gasket.I order the parts needed, the dealer has to order most of the parts.(I would have thought they would have a complete top end set) NO you have to order everything separately.
Now I was told from the dealer if I was to take the head in to a engine shop to be tested that it is recommended no to plain the head.will see...
so I have the head back and now going to reassemble it ill keep you all posted and I'm posting pictures as well.

Did you get new head bolts? From some of the other members who have changed the head gasket, the bolts seem to be a one time use only. I know many car and truck engines are like that. The members have reported that when you just about reach the torque spec, the bolt breaks. Not all but one or two.

Tearing down engines, some head bolts will already be stretched to the limit, before a second use?

Head studs can be reused. Head bolts must be replaced - yes bolts are a one and done.

My recommendation is to 'surface' the head and lap the valves in. Any variation in flatness needs to be addressed so the head gasket will seal properly. Also make sure ALL original gasket material is removed from block before installation of new gasket. I know some of this is basic but it doesnt hurt to emphasize.

Thanks guys for the info. I have new head bolts. I'm even replacing the heat seals and copper gaskets, where the injector have been removed.

i've just started noticing an antifreeze smell. I'm not loosing water or very little. How do I tell if head gasket problem ? I have about 700 hours. Not sure if smell is with heat on or not. Not leaking anywhere that I can see. Any help would be great.
