Deere's New Naming Convention

It certainly simplier than what they have been using. Easier to figure hp, configuration ect. Most companies have been using a similar system.

D equals dollars.

E equals expensive.

M equals put your mother up for additional collateral because it is so expensive?

LOL...

I think this system will be better once everybody gets it figured out. Deere made a big mistake with their 6030/7030 series machines by having "standard and premium" models with the same number (ex: 7130 Standard & 7130 Premium)...that was really confusing...I think this is a step in the right direction.

For the time being, until the video is taken down to fix some issues, you can view the video about the new naming convention at this direct link:

New Name and Numbering System

Here is how the new naming convention would be used on combines:

For combines, model numbers have four positions. The first is a letter indicating the type of combine - T for tangential-tine separation or S for single-tine separation, for example. The second position indicates the combine's capability level and size in relation to other John Deere combines: 6 for example, means a high-spec model with a wide body. The third position indicates relative power, 7, for example, indicating a 373-hp machine. The fourth position is reserved for future use.

Thus, a T670 (spoken as tee-six-seventy) designates a tangential-tine separation machine with a relatively high capability level and 373 hp.

I like the new naming system. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

It would be great if they would keep it for a few years. I was just now learning the most recent system...:)

The only thing that changes as much as the models is the model numbers. I wonder how long this one will last. I have given some consideration to buying a 1960's 4520 to go with my 2005 4520 just to give the parts guy a headache.

Change the model numbers to confuse the purchasers.

The new system also makes it easier to understand internationally. So when their overseas (non-North Am) factory personnel are assembling the newest tractors, they only have to deal with a simple designator and the learning curve is very short. So there will be less cost experienced than in the past during number scheme transitions.
