Deere Blade--What's It Worth

Personally, I think he's way high! Though old, the JD 80 blades are very good blades ( I have 3), as long as they haven't been abused! For me, $300-$350 would be more reasonable. ~~ grnspot

I might add that I don't like to pay too much for anything/kinda tight ---------- maybe!

I asked the guy if he would consider an offer of $450. He said that's interesting as another guy had offered him that amount and was coming to look at it this weekend.
I really like the old school Deere design of the casting that serves as the pivot for all three axes of adjustment. (Cliche--"They don't build them like that anymore"). I would plan to have it blasted and then repaint and decal if I end up with the unit. I have a 5' KeenKutter blade but would like to go with the longer 6'6" blade for snow removal and like the offset cabability.
Anyone know what this guy would weight in at? (The blade not the seller:))
Thanks

I bought a Massey Ferguson blade from close to the same era for less than $300...the blade I have seems to be a little beefier and heavier than the JD pictured...
The MF blade originally had a screw type adjustment to set the cutting angle...I replaced it with a hydraulic cylinder...

maybe they think it's worth more because it's a JD regardless of what it's actually worth...JMO

Since I added the extra hydraulic cylinder I use it primarily to clean ditches...with the tractor perpendicular to the road I let the blade down on the back side of the ditch and use both my HTL and the additional hydraulic adjustment to curl/scoop out the ditch as I slowly move forward while raising the 3PH...it works great!

I noticed it had bushings on the lift arm pins from Cat1 to Cat2 so it has probably seen some use behind a larger tractor than what it should.

I too noticed the bushings. I guess another way of looking at it is if the blade stood up to (or behind of) a CAT2 tractor, then it ought to handle a CAT1 okay.

or it could have been abused and something is wrong with it and that is why he getting rid of it. Look it over very carefully before you decide to buy it.

Good advice.

From the looks of that blade, the only abuse it's had is letting rust! The blade edge looks like it's had very little use, the braces from the lower 3-pt pins to the frame aren't bent (that is the first weak point on them, most have a "fish back" welded to them). As I stated before, I have three of them; the one here at home hasn't had a lot of use, the two at the farm have.

One was used on a JD 720D (dad bought it new in the late 50's/early 60's), used to clear stumps, cut ditches, buck snow etc.. The other, my uncle used on a 4010. They have both been broken up, one I keep turned backwards for my "bulldozer", the other is offset & angled for my "grader". The one thin to watch out for, if the center pivot bolt has been broken, when turning the blade around, it can fall out of the frame, doesn't happen often, but can & only if it's been severely abused. ~~ grnspot

Thanks for the info and great pix, Lowell! It's always good, before buying, to hear from someone experienced with an item.
Edit: That's a solid looking load of green on your trailer.
