Deere Adds Hydraulic Down Pressure Option On 3PH

Apparently Bellarus had this decades ago. Seems like a nice idea, although I can't see why. Good for changing a tire or getting unstuck, but adds significantly to complexity and cost.

Hope the 3PH Engineeers at Deere copied the Front Axle Engineers on this one.

I'm not understanding the concern with the front axle when using 3PH down pressure. Seems like the additional weight on the front axle due to 3PH down pressure would be minimal compared to what adding a FEL does to the front axle.
As far as additional stress on the front axle due to additional draft, the FWA should be able to at least slip the tires without causing undue stress to the driveline. Maybe I'm missing something but doesn't seem near the stress as what a FEL adds to the FWA especially when digging into a pile and trying to raise the bucket at the same.

I agree^^^^ there just is not any basis for the concern over the front axle.

Down pressure would be a great feature while running my stump grinder and skidding winch.

me thinks your could add a few suitcase weights to your implement and do the same thing for far less $$$ than that kit will cost. Its a cool idea, but the 500lb thing kinda kills it.

I agree. If it was a true 2-way hydraulic cylinder system that would apply as much down force as it's lifting ability then it might be justified to certain users. 500lb is minimal in it's effect on a tractor of that size in regards to ground engagement.

I was disappointed to see that it only applies 500lbs of force as well. I don't know WHY I was disappointed, it's not like I'm in the market for one, but it just seems like such a small amount of down pressure for probably quite a bit of money in research and development.

Maybe it's just a test bed, and the REAL down pressure will come out on next years model, able
To not only lift the rear end off the ground, but also lift and launch the entire tractor over obstacles :)

I understand the 3pt bracketry, including the cylinder mount incorporated into the rear axle top cover is designed to handle down force or load and not designed to handle up force such as would be applied with this new system. So maybe they were leary of applying that type of pressure without a complete redesign??

So maybe you are right, maybe this system will advance. Guessing that will be market driven??

Looks like the cylinders are attached directly to the upper lift arms. Almost looks like it would be cheaper to replace the integral 3PH internal cylinder with the outboard cylinders similar to shown in picture. Perhaps Deere feels like the market is not ready to accept down pressure and is taking this a step at a time as alluded to above. I'm sure the product liability legal team plays a starring role in all of this.

Not being familiar with this tractor,,,, it appears they left the original 3pt lift intact, and then added external cylinders to create down pressure??
