I was told by a salesmen that it would be a while, because Deere still had a large inventory of the 4000 series.
Why not update now? I was told that the only changes for the 4r was that Deere was going from their own engine back to a Yanmar for tier4. Also the number is changing.

Have you heard anymore? I bought my 4120 now before the changes. Curious to see what they actually come out with to confirm I made the right decision.

There are a few more changes than that. You can control the three point and inch the tractor forward and backward from the rear fender, there is a 500lb down force option for the three point, the loader quick connects is are "single point" hydraulic block, and the backhoe can be installed without removing the 3 point arms, and the air ride seat swivels to the left and right. The road speed is a few miles per hour faster also.
Theres some good changes there...but I sure hate to see the JD powertech go.

I was originally thinking of trying to snag one of the last 3X20 machines, but I like the new 3R machines so much I am going to wait a few years and pick one up.

Saw them at the farm show. Some neat changes, but the engine looks crazy complicated wnd a much cheaper body style. My dealership was told summer release.

Is there a hood stack option? I see the round vent/plug thing and was wondering.

I imagine there will still be. They've had that option for a while now.

I talked to the John Deere guy trained on the new 4xxxR series at the NFMS today in Louisville. He said they would have the website reflecting the new models live the end of February or the first of march and would start shipping in April. I almost ordered a 4520 last year but decided to wait to see what this new line offered.

Two features that i think are a valuable are the rear fender controls to creep forward and back and raising or lowering the 3point hitch. They also have an option to provide down pressure on the lift arms. Second feature that i think is worthwhile is the optional front hitch. He told me that a front hitch would be available in the spring of 2015 for front mounted implements like the 3x20 series offers.

I questioned him on the Tier 4 systems and he said the components are engineered for 10,000 hours with no additional maintenance required. This series will regenerate automatically at the tractor start up.

They had both the R and M 4xxx series there and they are nice tractors but not sure how much extra the Tier 4 will add.

Several years ago at the NFMS, I was told by a John Deere Rep that there would soon be a 270 quick change backhoe available for the 2720/2520 compacts. I am still waiting on that one. Reps are just dim bulbs that repeat what they are told.

Costs will be 2500-3000 retail more

My dealers John Deere Day is March 1st. If there is a new 3R or 4R series there, I will get plenty of pics and info.

the exhaust vent in the hood will be used during the engine regeneration. exhaust temps
will be high to burn off soot in the exhaust filter, so they redirect the exhaust up thru the vent
in the hood instead of down towards the ground, in case the tractor is indoors or out in dry conditions.

while in national training in florida, i questioned them on the front hitch, as they mentioned it was going
to be part of the new design. after questioning a couple different people, one guy finally mentioned
that they were "working on a design" and it would be something they are trying to do down the road.
he indicated an aftermarket company was working on the design, and they said they were looking at
an engine driven front PTO, not coming from a mid pto like the 3000's. no date was given by him as
they had not finalized anything yet. let's hope it's not an other 270 backhoe! (but we do have a 270A)

Deere seems to like to announce stuff that they can't get to market. They announced that they had flex forks for the ZTR's at the start of last year. Many of us were excited about that option since it could be bought at time of purchase or as a field add on. They are still not available as of now. I'll be on to a new and different brand by the time they get them out (if they ever do).

I hear ya RG,
they are still working on something for the Ztrac, but that flex fork idea is dead. They
are working on something new. (from what i was told)
