DEERE 2032R RIO EASY DEFEAT

Hi All,

I sold my 12 year old 2210 and bought a 2015 2032R with H130 Loader and 62C MMM After 2 days I determined that the RIO feature is extremely dangerous. I mow an extremely steep slope.
Just touching the rev pedal while mowing stops the engine, You lose hydro power and roll down the hill backward. This is STUPID.

Here's how to defeat it. No cutting wires, No soldering, No tape, No hacking wires. This is very clean. With pictures!

1 Remove the dash mounted PTO engage switch. ( take out 4 bolts holding on the instrument cluster and remove the throttle leaver to get access)

2. The RIO override wires are connected to momentary contacts on the PTO switch.

3. The PTO switch has a spare set of unused switch contacts contacts. We will be moving the RIO
over ride wires from the momentary contacts to this unused switch position.

4. Carefully using a small pick or jewelers screw driver, Remove the RIO wires(contacts) from the connector shell. There is a small metal thorn on the contact
that holds the contact in the plastic shell.

5. Re install the RIO wires into the spare position.

6. Review the pictures.

7. Test. With front PTO engaged, the engine runs when pressing REV pedal while in gear.

RIO is DEFEATED The tractor works like a tractor should.

KNOWLEDGE is POWER. Use this knowledge wisely.

Thank you for posting this information BACARDI-151. I have a 2025R that is needing this exact same treatment. I couldn't agree with you anymore that it is extremely dangerous. I also have very hilly terrain and a wife that occasionally operates it. She gets confused enough without having to throw this ridiculous RIO into the mix. Not saying she is a poor operator either, but mowing on steep hills is dangerous enough without adding distractions. Bypassing the RIO is one less distraction to have to think about.

OK what does RIO stand for. I assume it is a seat nanny so the R is probably rider but what does IO stand for?

the way it works is if you have the MMM running in order to back up you have to pull up on the pto knob and hold it until you push the reverse pedal. If not the tractor shuts down.

Yeah, If you read the manual they write about Reverse Implement Operation like its a desirable "feature" and the RIO momentary override allows you to temporarily overcome this "feature".
So, I mow up and down a really steep slope. On the downhill pass I need to apply a little reverse at times to keep the tractor speed under control especially when approaching obstacles or rocks. With my old 2210 this was never an issue, just apply a little reverse pedal to moderate the speed on the downhill. On the 2032r, if you touch the reverse pedal and forget to pull up on the knob, the engine quits and tractor starts to really roll. Then you have to clamp down on the brake, find neutral, shut down the PTO, restart the engine etc on a steep slope. Problem is now solved.

I don't understand why they don't have it just kill the PTO and leave the engine running, like it does on my X500. Which, I still couldn't live with BTW.

From comments that I have read in the past, We have to do this to keep from running over the children. So if just the mower deck shuts down and not the tractor you would still be able to run them over.
