Deer season opens tomorrow

We had a pretty hard winter last year around here and the deer population seems to be really down. I've been out twice to a couple of my favorite spots and did not even SEE any deer. I just might end up with tag soup this year ​

Rifle season this coming Saturday. This year I missed ML season - my sister was turning 50 and I went to Prague for a surprise visit. I love the ML season, but there will always be deer and the family is whats important.

I believe in being comfortable! My little 6' x6' "Timber Shack" is heated (when needed), swivel seat & plenty of room for snacks, stretching, etc. I prefer to just let the deer come to me!

Also makes a good place for noon break when I'm working in the timber in cold weather! ~~ grnspot

a nice buck crossed the road in front of me as I was on my way to work this AM. No hunting in the Chicago area, so I guess he will be around next year as well.

My cousin called last night, he got tagged by a 6 pointer while driving to work in his brand new F-150. The deer hit his front fender and rolled down the side of the truck. The estimate was $4700! New fender, new skin on door, take dings out of cab, replace skin on left side of bed and a new rear bumper.

The deer wasn't hurt too bad, it left the scene without leaving any contact or insurance info...a real hit and run!

I feel your pain, Ridgewalker. I watch dozens of deer parade through my backyard and can't shoot any of them. I have, however, identified what I believe to be a single tree that's at least 100 yards from any residence other than my own.

I might be able to legally discharge a firearm from a stand there but then there's the issue of retrieving the dead deer from my neighbors' property.

Knowing some of my neighbors, that could be a fight.

Up here in Alberta if i can prove i shot the deer or any other game off the guys property that does not like hunters he has to allow you to retrieve it by law or they face criminal charges from Fish and Wildlife. They get the same charges as someone that just shoots a animal and leaves it behind. I deal with this every time i go hunting. Most land owners ask where i shot it (location) and i tell em where it jumped the fence into their place. I keep a copy of that law in my back pack.. In case someone does not believe me.

:confused2: glad to see i'm not the only one in Alberta with this problem... My wife keeps asking me how tasty are those tags.:ashamed: gotta love a wife with a twisted sense of humour.. I set my trail cameras up down near Caroline now.. This friday my ole man and I are heading out for a few days to see what we can scare outta the bush..

About a month ago a pickup knocked a nice big 4 pointer into the road in front of me driving my wife's new Ford Flex.

Other than the deer hair under the car from the front bumper to the muffler, and a ding in the Lic. plate, no damage.

Little did I know that was as close to hunting as I was gonna get this year.

Two years ago I was on crutches for all of hunting season...
Stinks to be me at moment....
