I hate Deer Flies, but fortunately only have a small deer fly problem on my property. The are a particular pain because repellants don't seem to work on them.
However, I though those of you in deer fly territory might be interested in the following article:

It seems that Russell Mizell, a prof of entomology (bug scientist) at UF has invented an effective trap for the critters.

Hope its of some use....

Thanks, Brian. I've got quite a crop of deer flies this year. I too notice a sizeable swarm of the little buggers following my truck as I drive slowly down the road. I wonder if attaching this sticky blue flowerpot to my truck cab/tractor ROPS would do the trick?

I described my current approach a few weeks back in this <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=rural&Number=178454&page=2&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&vc=1#Post178454>post</A>.

It would definitely work! I've been overrun with them this summer and decided to try it myself. I bought some Tanglefoolt from the hardware store and painted it on a 6" green pot. Put a C clamp up on the top of the ROPS and placed the pot on it. It worked great. The pot was covered with them. I also made a portable version by safety pinning a plastic cup to the top of a baseball cap.
