Tractor
Kubota B3030 HSDC, Kubota ZD 18
Why is a Kubota B3030?
I surmise the B is the frame, the first 30 is HP, but what about the second 30?
An L3400. L is the frame? 34 is the HP, but what about 00?
How about other tractor brands that I am less familiar with such as Deere? For example, a John Deere 3720 is a 44 HP tractor. Help take the mystery out of how tractors are categorized/named?

You are looking for more information in the model numbers than is really there. :)

Yup, marketing vs logic.
Guess which one wins?

On the Deere's, you might want to check Wikipedia, they have a good explanation of Deere numbers.

I might mention, until recently Deere numbers were a bit meaningless unless you knew their system. However, they have a new numbering system that does have the info you are looking for.

Just bought a B-710... Kubota tractor, no, a can of paint in the Philippines. Numbers are confusing.

I guess I will stop trying to decode things then. I just thought I was "missing" something.

It's not that the numbers don't mean anything. It's just that they do not necessarily mean something to us.

They are not always based on user information but some sort of identifier to the manufacturer that does not always seem logical to the user.

When comparing tractors, it is best to just look at the specs and don't worry about the model number except for reference if it is a tractor you are interested in.

And don't forget that Deere changes their numbering scheme every so often, just in case it starts to make sense to you.

Boy aint that the truth. And it's not just deere either. Or even just tractors for that matter.
