Deck adjust knob broke

The plastic (why plactic?) knob you turn to adjust the cut setting and lock the deck in the top setting split on me last night. They are sending me a new one but I don't want it to happen again. They deck is very hard at times to lock in the TOP setting and I am sure this is what did it. Is there an adjustment that can be made so the deck is not so hard to lock in the top setting?

I don't know about adjustments...never looked...but I do know that sometimes mine is hard to turn, and I do one of two things...

I either put the mower fully up (transport height) before turning the knob, or sometimes if it is hard to turn, I turn in in the opposite direction till I get to the number I want...(I am pretty sure I am right on the second one, that is what I think I remember doing).

In my case I just assumed that if it was hard to turn, I better do something to make it easy, as forcing it might lead to something breaking. When I do one of the above mentioned things it turns relatively easy.

MY JD2210 deck knob is the same way guys. I have to do what Henro has suggested and it works fine.

When turning the knob to the "Top" position, I raise it fully and if it doesn't want to go to the "Top" position, I get off the tractor and then jiggle the deck while turning the knob. It then goes into the "Top" position without any further difficulty. The only way that I can see you breaking the knob is by using brute force to turn it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have never give it a "great deal" of force but it does seem to take more than I expect it to and it turns very free execpt of that last click between 4" and top/lock even when shaking the deck. Oh well I have to sharpen blades this weekend I will look under it and see what I can see. Dearler is sending me a new knob anyhow I just don't want the new one to do the same thing

The adjustment knob on my BX2200 got a bit touchy after I aligned the deck. I remember shortening the threads to raise the rear of the deck. Now I have to make sure it is completely raised in order to get to the "Top" setting. Yours might be just a little too short.

there is a adjusting rod for the mmm in the right rear
between the tire and trans if the nut on the rod is adjusted
to far in you will not be albe to turn the knob at all.
this rod adjust the rear height of the mmm i believe.
i would back the nut off and see if it makes a difference.
if does u will probalbly have reset the the whole hgt adjments
on the mmm again
