If you want to buy a Southern Truck in order to avoid the rust on many (most?) Northern Trucks, you can have them hauled/shipped to you within a reasonable distance for $500, $600 depending on where you are and where you're picking it up.
It's worth looking into.
To be blunt with you, it might be time to say goodbye to the old T100. They were only made for a few years and that was over 2 decades ago, so parts aren't readily available. Especially on vehicles made in Japan. Plus, they weren't all that popular when they were made.
So you may be able to get by this time with a couple grand but what about next time? At what point do you tire of throwing money at it?
But used trucks are a bear. You can put an ad in the paper down here and have people knocking on your door at 4:00AM, when they get the paper, the next morning trying to buy it.
Trying to buy new is much, much worse right now. The biggest Ford Dealer on the Planet is near me and they usually have BIG discounts on their new trucks. They have none right now. I mean, they're asking, and getting, sticker price. Where last year, you could get $10,000 - $12,000 off sticker of an F-150 without even trying.
Like I said, I'm a Ford guy but I drive a Ram. Chevrolet went out of business for a reason, and Ram is so unknown to most people. Or at least they were when I bought my Cummins. Which is what I bought. Not a pickup truck, a Cummins.
But when it comes to used, about the only thing that matters is who had it before you and, of course, how much they want for it. Used? I'd probably lean Ram. And I'm not a Ram fan boy, at all. I'm a Ford guy. But people that buy Ford Pickups usually work them to death before they hit the used car lot. And the EcoBeast has had a few problems. Not as many as the Ford-Haters say, not even close, but a few. But used EcoBeasts are seriously expensive.
Wanna get blown out of your socks? Drive an EcoBoost.
But used, too many boy-racer types had them and I don't trust those kind of drivers.
For what you've described, I'd look at Ram. More bang for the buck, by far, than most chevys. And a better truck, IMO
I didn't want to name a brand, but I did. Here comes the flak
