Those prices are very good. Was this a cash deal? and did the dealer know about your trade in when he gave you thoes prices?? dont you usually get a better prices if you dont have a trade in?

I knew there were more differences. The implement pump difference is purely from the higher RPM differences of the two engines. Same pump, a little more volume at the higher RPM. PTO power is significantly higher on the 5030.

I would at least get the HD bucket. When working with rock, you will appreciate the extra beef. With the increased loader lift of the LA 853 over the LA 723, I would think going with the QA would make sense. If you do it now, you will get a QA bucket as well and that eliminates decisions later if you ever found a need down the road for pallet forks or a whole multitude of other implements. Going with the L5030 HST might make more sense if you want more performance like the geared tractor you had previously. The HST loves power. It's also an awesome transmission. My list of HST advantages gets longer every week. You will see some disadvantages after using your geared tractor, but if your work is anything like mine, you will love it. The control is superb.

Woodchuckc,

have you ever thought of going with a Cab tractor?? It would make a world of difference in extream temperatures.

I'm sorry but the 5030 would actually be at least equal if not a far better performer for most tasks then the M-series would be as the weight is about the same for the two not counting the additional ballast in or on the rear. I can't say the five cylinder is not a sweet motor in the way it performs! With the added performance of the four wheel drive it would actually be a better thought that the 4330 is just a little less. The implements or specialty toys are a good thing to have and this is the ideal time for a dealer to be making deals on left overs. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think that the dealer has a buyer already for the M4700, so he is allowing more than usual for the trade-in value. I could probably find out who the buyer is and offer to sell it to him directly for a few more dollars than my trade-in allowance, but this dealer has always "done me right", and I got a very good deal when I bought the M4700 from him originally. In the long run, I'm getting pretty good prices on the equipment and maintaining a good relationship with a dealer I can count on to be there for me. Also thrown in are things like free delivery (40 miles one way) of the tractor and implements, and free shipping on parts / filters / etc. if I call him up to order them instead of going and picking them up.

I posted this request mainly because I had never priced these large compact tractors before, so I didn't know how much of a mark off of list price I should expect to see.

Thanks,
-Chuck

We don't have it too bad here in middle TN, but an air conditioned cab for the summer brush-hogging would be nice /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif (to say nothing about the protection from the inevitable cloud of yellow jackets when you run over one of their nests or hornets when you bump into a hive along the edge of a field /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif).

I guess I kind of like the contact with the environment when I'm out tractoring, since my day job necessitates me being cooped up in an office. I would probably feel different if I still lived in Michigan's UP with a couple of feet of snow to move and a -20 F temperature to deal with.

Art,
That five cylinder in the M4700 is about as smooth a running diesel as I've ever come across, and I've never come close to running out of power with it. I know that the HST is going to take away more PTO HP, and the 4330 is rated at 34.5 HP vs 42 HP for the M4700 (the 5030 is rated at 42.5 HP, so is essentially a direct replacement).

I don't really do anything too demanding (cutting about 30 very hilly acres of fields, plowing / discing 4 acres, maintaining about 1/2 mile of driveway, moving dirt from here to there, etc.), but I have always rather had tools that are a little bit "oversize" for the job so that you are not working right at the capacity of the equipment all the time. I just think that things last longer and tend to break down less if you do that (and keep them well maintained, of course!).

The main reason to go with the 4330 instead of the 5030 would be what you pointed out - the specialty toys that I "need" would essentially be a freebie, since I have already spent the money in my head. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think you will be pleased with the new tractor which everone you choose. I don't think that you would feel that much loss from the horsepower at all other then maybe climbing the hills. I have listened to many people talk of it but nobody has been able to split those hairs very much at all. I like to use all of my options of tractors, both the late model trades to see how the competition does and my own brands.
