Decent game camera

My friend just purchased one for security reasons and we found that in the cold weather the batteries just would not last even a night.
The particular unit used 2 banks of AA cells and operated at 6 volts.
The charger would not keep up.
My guess is that constant scan just ate juice.
Indoors it worked great.
Manual stated it was rated down to -25 but that proved optimistic.
We were using hi cap lithium cells at that.

The store even replaced the unit and second one was not better.

Sorry, can't recal brand but just wanted to 'heads up' possible short coming to watch out for.

I got fed up with the battery systems they come with so I purchased a better battery and a solar charger. My battery worries are mostly over for a long while.

I use a spy-point cam from gg-telecom with a 12v battery, get about 10000 pictures per charge over a 4-6 month period

I have Cuddeback cameras and very satisfied. Others work well, just need longer to take the pics, recommend bait in front of camera. I agree that pictures will do little good, hunting and trapping will do the best.

Buy a donkey and put your game camera on a harness for the donkey. You'll get lots of good pictures of the donkey chasing the vermin.

A couple points I think are worth making:
1. You値l find happy and unhappy owners of every brand out there.
2. You壇 be wasting money trying to get pictures of coyotes. First, it痴 harder than it seems to get pics of them. Not impossible, just difficult. They aren稚 very predictable. Second, having pictures of coyotes isn稚 going to save your sheep. Spend that money on guard animals. Whether you see them or not, coyotes are out there.

Try your county commissioners office or your local extension agent, they usually have state/government trappers around or at least could offer a reputable trapper's name. Worst thing you can do is go at them half a#$ed, you'll just make them smarter as previously said.

You could also so trap them your self, but I would recommend time with an experienced trapper, their should be quite a few in your neck of the woods.

Never underestimate them for sure, they are an astute, beautiful animal that can figure you out before your coffees made. I've killed several hundred of them and still get amazed at how smart they can become.

Save the money from the tech gadget and get a couple of Anatolian Shepard's (google them), donkey, some snares and a good 22-250! and of course a new tractor to haul it all around:D

Have you tried the search function? There are at least 3 or 4 different threads about this same topic. Might find some useful info there as well.

I have a Moultrie 5MP Outfitter Cam from Cabelas and it takes very lousy pictures compared to the Stealth Cam that Eddie Walker uses. Look at any of Eddie's photos for what I consider a really high quality picture. His pictures around his feeder have quality and great depth of field in changing light situations (A recent post with photos in changing conditions). I WILL NOT buy another Moultrie. My next game camera will be a Stealth Cam. They are available for $99 from Amazon with FREE SHIPPING and will be delivered to your door. Can't beat that.

I have had pretty good results with a Wildgame Innovations IR4C. Set up on several major game trails, with 2 being the only easy ways over a small creek, and have yet to catch a coyote with 2 large packs working in our area. I have caught many other animals, including crows looking straight in the lens, but I think other are right and you should spend your money on a guard animal or eradication instead of proof they are around.

Super advice there Jim.

I think it was the thread Eddie started about this same thing (cameras). Personally, I now wouldn't buy a tee shirt that said "Moultrie" on it. Over the years I have had quite a few Moultrie products because they where usually cheaper (feeders, timers ect tra) and the old adage is true, "you get what you pay for". But with a $99 price for a Stealth and as Jim said, just look at the pictures, that's a good deal.

I also have a Wildgame Innovations, lower version than jefferythree has, cost $89 when I bought it and it is better than the $149 Moultrie I got as a gift.

I had a Moultrie that went through 6-D batteries pretty fast and finally would not take pictures. I got a Bushnell that uses AA batteries and I haven't replaced them since I put the camera up in the fall.
