Deals on Delta Woodworking Tools

Not sure if you've already noticed, but Lowe's is having a sale on a bunch of Delta woodworking tools. I just bought a Delta DP400 (3/4 HP, 12-speed, 16 1/2") floor drill press for $229... Home Depot had the same model for $349, Amazon.com has it for $369.

They also had bench drill presses, band saws, router tables, table saws, and some other items at really low prices. Maybe they're discontinued models, but it was impossible to beat the price. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Kind of made me want to buy a new table saw, despite just buying one two months ago. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

As a side note, this will be my first Delta tool.

If you use yours 1/4 as much as I use mine, you will think it was a steal.

I bought a 14" delta from Sams about 3-1/2 yr ago & paid 250.00.

I keep asking myself, why didn't I do this 50 years ago. I think I know the answer, I couldn't afford it and I wouldn't be suprised if it cost 250.00, 50 years ago.

You do need to be a little careful with Delta tools. You have to look at specs carefully or you end up with their hobby grade stuff, which is OK, but often not as pleasing, especially if you're expecting their pro grade. Take a look at the Delta 17-965 drill press. It apparently has the same specs as the DP400 until you look closer. Longer spindel travel, more distance to the table, bigger table, more speeds, etc. Someone else who has a 14" floor standing drillpress from delta who is recommending it, may have a 17-965 rather than the DP400.

Still, it's a fine Drill press at a very good price, but with Delta you need to make sure your getting the version you want.

Surely wish I had workspace for nice drill press. I have a small very low end radial arm drill press modified so it mounts on a workmate stand. When not being used it gets moved out of the way. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, all you need to do is remove that bloody big resaw bench and send it to me and you will have pleanty of room for a drill press, oh, and while you are at it send the frame extension as well. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Om my goodness, the bandsaw extensions fold down but they also provide a place to work on and store other tools under like the drill press barelly seen in the lower left. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I went to Lowes today to see what was on sale. They are moving out the older Delta tools. I did pick up a Delta table saw with the stand. It was the newer version and not on sale. I needed one asap for a project on my barn. I wish they had one on display so I could have taken a better look at it. The whole bottom of the saw is plastic. This thing is going back tomorrow. Talk about cheaply made. Time to go shopping again.

I did put a Delta compound 10" miter saw on hold for $99.00 that is on closeout. They were out of these and have 5 more coming in this week.

They had a nice table saw for I think $229, marked down from $299... I don't think Lowe's sells their professional grade tools.
