dealing with irrational people

Update. We arrived at the job site yesterday and the homeowner tells me that the vendor locator service wanted over five hundred dollars to check a fifty foot section.

Never heard of that. As far as I know you can call 811 in any state & they locate for free. Wonder if she's lyin'.

Bet a nickle Underground Service Alert or similar company is free for the basic utilities that connect to the house from the primary utility service. Anything else in the yards(sprinkler line, leech line etc) is separate deal.

While I was firing off my final tax check, I was listening to the TV, and a PSA came on that simply said : "Call before you dig....it's the law." This was in NC, and implies to me that the actual person doing the digging, perhaps the outfit boss....calls.

There are only a couple of bill boards in my town. One of them just got a new advertisement and it is for calling No Cut. :laughing:

It took me a couple of days to see the PHONE number to call on the bill board! Seems like they need to rethink their advertising.....

The number, 811, was to one side of the bill board and placed on what looked like a tool box or some such. Ya would think they would have made the number to call kinda obvious. The font size of the number was smaller than other text as well.

I know the local green phone boxes have the No Cuts number stickered on the side. The power transformer box might as well.

I call the number whenever I grade the road. The power and phone service cross the road a couple of times and run down the road near the gravel. When I grade the road I rip up the gravel with the box blade teeth and then smooth it back down. The phone service should be well blow what I rip up but I am not taking any chances. I call No Cuts first even though I know, or think I know, where the power and phone lines are located.

Lets see, ive been a general contractor and electrical contractor for nearly 30 years and ive never had an irrational client.

But i have had alot of pure psychopaths over the years. :laughing: :laughing: :laughing:.

Where i work, its the contractors responsibility to mark out the proposed working location with white paint and the words LOCATE. then call 811 and request a locate. (free)

i come back 2 days later and its all marked out.

Now as for clients. I think i should change my ads to read:

"If your a nut job.... than im your electrician"

cause that would save everyone the frustration.:licking:
