Re: XU series engines

Everytime I see a chance to chime in with a useful answer it seems like you've already beat me to the punch! LOL Good job, GMan!

That's exactly right, the high injection pressures (26,000 - 29,000 psi) atomize the fuel so well that the exhaust is clean without any regen, and you can tune for more power, better fuel economy, or both. In the case of the XU5055, you'll get up to 18% better fuel economy than the U5030's Mitsubishi engine rated for the same output. Additionally these Shibaura engines, relative to the outgoing Mitsus, have a solid block / captured crank design, fewer internal moving parts since they use a serpentine belt, and a better lubrication scheme with dedicated oil lines providing positive lubrication everywhere it's needed in the engine.

We first started learning about these engines on a LS sponsored dealer trip to Korea 2 years ago, and then in tech classes beginning 1.5 years ago just before they became available for sale. The more we learn, the more we like! Other than one customer damaging his main wiring harness with some modification, they've been 100% trouble free so far, and we fully expect that trend to continue.

18% is a pretty good savings on my fuel bill. That is definitely in the plus column, I also noticed on the non cab model the exhaust stack not turned up is it a downdraft exhaust and if so what direction is the exit.

Is the PS as bullet proof as it seems?

Do not mean to beat this to death but in looking at the 2 tractors U5020 and the XU5065 the specs look to be the same tractor frame except the PS transmission and the engine. Does that mean LS engineered the front drive-lines and axles bearings transmission for 65 HP and put 47 in the 5020 or is the frame undersized for the HP of the 5065? Just want to make sure this one lasts me until I cant climb on board anymore.

Isn't the U5020 the same as the U5030 only with 55 HP

Ok guys, A little late to the party. But, I just got to the point where I can buy a tractor. I have been looking over the green machines, some blue machines and even a few red ones. It's looking like the XU6168 or XU5068. I'm just a little concerned the LS does not have a history of use. Anybody want to chime in?

Thank you
Gene

This thread is over 3 years old....you may want to look for something newer. Many folks here have had LS tractors (I had one) and had good luck. They've been in business for quite some time, and are growing rapidly....good dealer reviews, good machines, good parts support, and backed by one of the biggest companies in the world (LG). LS is controlled by the Koo family who own LG, so it's not like they're going to be hard up for cash.

Had a XU5065CPS for a few years and, comparing to my (bought used) Kubota MX5200HST, definitely feel like they are in the same league in terms of build, finish and operation. The Kubota and also the Kioti's I've tested were a little quieter and nicer inside the cab. Problem I have is dealer support. Around 5 Kubota dealers within same driving distance as exactly 1 LS and 1 Kioti (prev. there were 2 of each). If you have a great LS dealer or selection of dealers in your area, I doubt you'll find a better value for your tractor money.

Gene,
LS has been selling the LS brand since 2009 though the company has been around much longer. They have been building tractors for other companies for many years prior. I've had mine for 3 years and have not been back to the dealer except to buy filters. I met the LS rep at a tractor farm show and they assured me my dealer is very capable of handling any issue my tractor may have. In reading other threads here I have only seen very few members that have had warranty or repair issues.
Here is a bit of history about LS.

Have had my LS XG3037 for nearly a year and am very happy with my decision.
