Finally got 3" of white stuff on the ground this morning. Perfect chance for me to try out my newest 226 hour YM with the 48" snowblower. Got about two passes done and the chain broke! I'm hoping it was just the connector piece, but didn't have time to look at it in the dark this morning. Had to get to work!

4"-7" more expected tomorrow.

Good thing I didn't get rid of my 7' plow or my "little" old school walk behind Toro snowblower yet!

Always good to have test run before the real fun begins. ;)

Looks like just the connecting link failed. I spun the thing plenty this summer when there was no snow, just to make sure everything was lubed up, ect. This is one of those "only under load" situations. First snow of the year was Friday, which I'm NOT sad about.

Some machines have a guide that says install connecting link this way so the retaining clip does not get snagged and yanked off. Leading edge of the retaining clip probably should not be the opened end of the clip. This assumes that your master link looks like the ones we had on bicycles 40 years ago. Yes, looks the same. I went to Grainger with the chain this morning and they got me a 5 pack of the links for $6 and change!

Hopefully tonight I'll be back in business. Although I hope I don't need the blower anymore this year!

She's back up and running, although I have to say the design of the chain tension is really poor. On top of that, when I really looked at mine yesterday as I was working on it, I noticed the bottom bolt holes were damaged/gone. I think that's why it broke the link, the cross shaft may be slightly crooked.

Only way to fix it is to cut off the entire bracket and make a new one with the old as a template... I guess once I'm done with restoring my BM48deck, the blower might as well be next!
