I love TractorByNet. You guys have so many great Ideas. Those tube traps sound pretty interesting. Emotionally the pellet gun would make me feel good unless I couldn't hit the tree rats. I have a big havaheart trap but the downside is that you have to dispose of the critter. What do you guys use for squirrel bait? My Dad had squirrels in his attic last year. He trapped something like 35 squirrels which he drove down to the river and released. I sort of wondered if he trapped 2 squirrels 17 times. If I knock off the local population will that take of the wise guys who thought up eating plastic or will the next group that moves in think of it too?

Squirrels can be quite entertaining, especially if someone else is their victim. :)

I was taking a break from a Sunday bike ride on the DC Capital grounds one summer. Nearby, a family of tourists were feeding a bunch of squirrels. They had a boy, about eight to ten years old, who was wearing shorts. One of the squirrels decided it wasn't getting fed fast enough and ran up the kids bare legs into his shorts.

I almost died laughing. The kid screamed and started running. The squirrel bailed, and the parents were hollering for the cops. When everyone calmed down, I got a real dirty look from Mom and Dad, who stormed off with their kids like it was my fault.

They had been feeding the squirrel nuts, so as you may imagine, there's an even more entertaining way to tell the story. :D :D :D

My choice is the pellet gun, I killed many at my old house with a scoped .17 cal Gamo.

Now that I don't have neighbors in sight, I use a .17 mach 2

Regular peanuts in the shell works for me.

The Marine Corp base makes a nice wildlife refuge. :)

Has anyone ever trapped a squirrel? IMO shooting may be more humane. What I found with the Havahart trap is they will go crazy when trapped, they will beat all the skin off their heads trying to get out. Unless you watch the trap and haul them off within minutes they end up dead anyhow and it is a slow painful death.

Hmm, the ones I got, I usually throw a blanket on them. Simmers them down.

Groundhogs will goe ape, trying to get out. Blanket does the same. Then when you try an release them, themyhang on for dear life. Wife says she should have had a DVDrecorder handy on the last attempt. Stupid 'hog would not let go of the trap.

No one in sight from anywhere on my property except from my front yard, and that would be traffic flying by..I don't like ending life, but early this spring a group found a way into my attic-crawl space.
They moved out;)
Well, honestly, they went to get a feed at a bird feeder, it's in line-of-sight from my easy chair, for some reason my pellet gun lives next to the window that's right by my chair.

Too bad the skunks aren't as nice to have around as squirrels.

Pennwalk-Listed below the traps is a bait they sell, it works. Also if you set the trap on a runway(fence) you can set the trap without any bait and they will enter it.

You will also find out if you have any big rats around, as it will get them also.

Hence my comment you have to watch the trap and haul them off to the release area right away.....I know I can throw a blanket on it if I'm there watching for a victim...but I left a trap one morning then came home from work to find a dead bloody squirrel.:(
