We took some honey this am. Look how dark! Tastes great! Perhaps the best I have ever tasted. I tasted a lot.

I am curious. What is blooming in your area that made your honey that color? With Molasses, there are light and dark varieties.

It's August in a subtropic environment with above average precipitation.......what isn't blooming here?
We planted only flowers in the garden this summer, but those bees can travel a mile or two foraging. I have read about some semi-aquatic reed plants that will cause this and also goldenrod. We have a large pond.....I don't think there is much goldenrod here, maybe some type but not like up north.
There are no crops out of the ground right now, they will be planting strawberrys in the coming weeks but everything else is harvested.

Molasses is a product from sugar cane, completely different, except for appearance, it does look like molasses, but it's honey.

That's some beautiful looking honey! Where are you at in Fl? We just recently transplanted from Tampa to North Ga.

West coast, not far from Tampa.
I have seen blueberry honey that was dark, but not as dark as this. That was very good. The closest blueberries are less than a mile. But were harvested by the first week in June.

That's pretty dark! Only time i've personally seen any that was close to that dark was from over heating when processing, but i've heard from other people getting very dark honey like yours.

I remember some years ago getting honey from a relative, i think was in Florida, it wasn't quite as dark as yours. It was delicious too! Kind of a buttery caramel flavor. I wish i could remember what they said it was from but i wonder if yours might be a higher concentration of the same plant nectar.

I've had periods where my honey came in that dark. I harvested about 50 pints of it one summer. It was a late summer harvest, well after two initial harvests in late Spring then early Summer. Around here it comes from California Buckwheat and has a slight molasses flavor. People went nuts for it so I raised the price.

Here is a pic of the three harvests for that year, Spring, Early Summer, Late Summer.

By the way, dark honey has up to 17 times the amount of healthy nutrients (vitamins, minerals, etc.) than light honey. It is referred to sometimes as Gourmet Honey which is another reason I raised the price.

Beekeeping is a lot like farming in general. You have good years and you have bad years. Due to lack of rain this past Winter in N. California, this wasn't a good year, so stash is at a minimum. Sorry.
