Rebuilt and installed:
Got the trans installed and noticed I cannot get it to roll freely when manually pushing. I figured let’s just see what happens when there is pressure from a running motor.

Fired her up and had to adjust the bypass lever a bit but I was able to get it going in forward and reverse. However, she sounded aweful, like every thing that could grind was. Also when I let off forward it locked up the wheels to stop.

Repulled trans again to inspect:
When I pulled the trans and dumped out the fluid it was metallic and I thought FML… however I cannot see any noticeable wear and the aluminum pump housing has no noticeable wear. The pump case looks good and I can spin the ‘motor’ freely.

I checked the bypass pin again before putting the case cover on and all is well.

When I go to prime the axle on the bench I cannot put the trans into forward or reverse without it locking right up. If I hold forward/reverse and spin the pump by hand I seem to hit a noticable wall where I cannot spin the pump anymore. If I let off forward/reverse I can’t spin the pump freely.

Why would this be?
