What type oil do I use in the gearbox and how full should it be. I also discovered an oil leak where the brake linkage is going in to the axle on the right side. Is this just a seal or will I have to pull the whole thing apart.

It is either 90w or utf (universial tractor fluid) if it is thin line 20w oil it is utf. It is is very thick oil it is 90w.
leak is most likely a seal.

Use 80w90 gear oil unless you have a loader. In that case use a quality tractor hydraulic oil. Level plug is on the right side of the transmission. Look for a bolt head in the middle of the case just behind the diff. lock pedal about half way up the side. You probably have a bad seal in the brake housing. Is not difficult to replace.
