A bunch
Just trying to decide which one to get. They both have a 48" deck, though the 160 has the ELS engine, larger tires and the same transmission as the x300. Reviews are pretty good on both. I'm only using it to cut 1-2 acres of reasonably flat lawn. I have a farm and bigger tractors to do everything else around here. I priced out the X series, and while I'm sure they're better, they're more money than I want to spend.

Thoughts?

Just went thru this and ended up purchasing the x300. But I will say the D160 is nice and right now Deere is offering $100 off the D series or $500 off the X series. That's what pushed me to the X, with dealer discount I was out the door at $2300. I did have a chance to look at the new S 240 that they just came out with for 2015, it's a D series, offered at dealers only and has the Kawasaki engine, K46 hydro, better warranty (3yr/200hr maybe), better mower deck and some other upgrades. The D130 also seems to be a pretty good deal.

I thought about that too, but I want a 48" as they're better for trimming under bushed and around rocks. X300 with 48" is pricey. I do like s240. I'll probably get 160 because it has better trans.

Has anything changed with the K46 transmission? I mow about 2 acres and don't pull carts or climb grades and did not make it to 300 hours with a K46 transmission. That was a waste of money imo, bought the x749 andhave never looked back.
I would not consider anything below an x310 with the K58 transmission, that is the cheapest way to go over a 5 year period. You will still have a working mower with the K58 tranny but it is questionable whether the K46 will hold up for 5 years.
