Yes Easter holiday is quite wild at places.
In the place I grew up we had a procession trough the village. Guys shot a canon powered by acetylene at every girl they got close enough to. It was made from a stovepipe and shot rag balls soaked in soot. All cars passing trough the village were stopped, hooked up to a two guys dressed as a horse and "dragged" half block. The driver was charged for the tow. Sometime it was for the fire squad and sometime just for booze money.
And the article is right. The Easter (and in fact all the other Christian holidays) are mixed with pagan customs that even more than 1000 years of Christianity couldn't wipe out.

The place where my parents summer cabin is is on of the wild ones. First, we go on Sunday to be able to drink. Monday is always off and guys can sleep off the hangover. All boys, young and old get together and go from house to house like plundering marauders. Eggs and chocolate are for kids, for adults there are small shots of slivovice, vodka, rum, whiskey, brandy - you name it. There is about 40 - 50 houses - you can imagine what drunken army you get on the end. The end is typically somewhere with a bonfire and there is a lot of guitars and general music and singing till small hours.
