I installed new cylinders for front bucket lift on my ford jubilee tractor about 3 years ago.The cylinders are double acting, but being used as single acting(1hose&a vent cap on upper end). They've been working fine until now,the vent cap blew off one cylinder so i put a new one on, used it a while(lifted fine)and it blew another one. With the vent cap off, it pushes fluid out on the up stroke but it does lift. The other cylinder has never bothered, the fluid level is o.k..I don't know if it's a problem with the cylinder or something else in the hydraulic system. Any help would be appreciated-Thank you

Welcome to TBN:D

If you are getting fluid out of the port that is vented-then that indicates the piston seals are leaking/bypassing, the cylinder needs to be rebuilt.

2nd Kennyd, probably have enough oil in the vent that air doesn't flow freely and pressure builds up, then pop!

After the cyl is rebuilt, it's always a good idea to add fittings/hose to the vented ports and route them back to tank.....it will keep dirt/condensation out of the cyls....

Sometimes the vented cyls get rusty inside the bores internally.....it may extend the seal life next time......

I have converted these to piston displacement cylinders with great success. I never liked vented single acting cylinders.
