Cx2510 cluch and gears

Hi all fist post. I use this site a lot.
My father borrowed my cx2510 hydrostatic when I was on vacation and was using the clutch like a stick shift. he said he would hear grinding and asked if it was normal. What kind of damage could he have done.

Was he using the PTO clutch to shift between High and Low gear on the fly? While moving?

There are no "synchronizers" as you know so... yeah they'll grind. I'd try to get him to volunteer how many times he grinded them "hey I've heard that once or twice before too - how many times did you shift and it made a grinding noise?" Get accusatory and he may not be as forthcoming.

If it's once or twice, even 5-6times you're probably fine. If it's "every time I was moving spoils from A to B, for 6 hours" I'd want to drain and pull the filter.

Thank you for you replay.
I am going to swing by this week and talk to him. He is very truthful. He already feels bad and said he will pay for repairs. It only has 25 hours on it. But I would rather him break my tractor rather than for him to get hurt shoveling the dirt by hand he is an older gentleman.

Hi all . Update on grinding gears. Drained the fluid through a paint screen and changed the filters. I did not see any metal shavings. Used the tractor all week with out any issues.
