CVT Boomer

New here, nice site, I've found it very interesting so far! I am this close (if you could see my fingers they are close together ) to buying a 8n Boomer, my local dealer has his discounted and NH is offering 0% for 72 months. I get that most think they are overpriced, although with the discounts it really is close to being in ballpark with other 50 hp CVT compacts, but I've always wanted one and I can afford it, I could pay cash but with the 0% why.

My real question is about the CVT, even though I have farmed and ran a lot of different tractors I have never owned one with a CVT. The boomer will mostly be used around the yard for light loader work, hopefully by my wife if it is easy enough to operate! Also will get a snow blower, how well does the CVT work with a snow blower? And also a tiller?

I have a NH 6050 with a loader that we use for the "big jobs", both snow removal and loader work, but it's too big and heavy to be used around the yard. Any advise would be appreciated!

I have no experience with the CVT, but I think you should read this post. Good luck with your purchase. They are certainly reasonably priced now.

I am curious what an aggressive dealer will discount the 8N Boomer? Appears to be quite a few 2009 and 2010s still in stock?

To be honest his price isn't any better than what you can find on tractorhouse, just discounted from what it used to be. I think NH is throwing some promo $ at them to get them off the lots. My local dealer is also one of my biggest customers in my seed business, he is also a farmer, so I am pretty much locked into buying from him. Although I would say his price is right in the ballpark with what I find online, and he's local, and I like to keep my money local when I can.

I had read that other thread about the CVT's, that's what got me wondering about how well it would work with a snow blower. Anyone comments from anyone with experience with that would be welcome.

I have not used a blower with my cvt, but have used my 72'' tiller. It worked great, lots of power, better on fuel than my old hydro. I think the better fuel economy comes from not lugging the engine down which the cvt is designed to do.

The cvt is supposed to have more pto power than the old hydro had and also opperates very smooth from the experience I've had with them.

I am not a fan of CVT in any vehicle. My wife bought a Mini Cooper with a CVT transmission five years ago. It has 170,000 miles and is still doing well. It speeds up and then slows down as it starts to cruise, much like the description in the thread that was linked to in the second post.

That said, for the uses you describe and since you have another tractor for any draft work that you might need to do, I think it would be fine. If you can afford it, like it and have the proper uses for it, WHY NOT?

It's cuter 'n a speckled pup and will be useful to you, and keeping your own money in savings, even at the weak interest we get in today's world, the financing helps the issue.

Give us some pictures when you get her home, and I hope you have a good place to keep it out of the weather so it can keep it's polished beauty.
