CV joint replacement Gator 620i

I need to replace the outer CV boot on on my 620i Gator. I have the axle shaft out but cannot get the inner CV joint separated from the axle shaft. The technical manual shows it held in place by a snap ring, however on my axle there is a retaining ring which I cannot remove. Suggestions appreciated. Bob Smits

How do you remove the outer CV Joint?? I have searched U Tube and Googled it with no help.

Some cv joints have a retaining ring around the outer edge of the cv joint just inside the leading edge where the balls run. Others have a retaining ring around the shaft itself, In which you have to secure the axle in a patted vise, and then carefully drive the splined part of the cv joint off the shaft with a brass punch, if you don't have access to the special tool.

Thanks RandyT. I followed your directions and it separated easily. Nowhere is this detailed in the Technical Manual.

And if you need to replace them again in the future, ACV is always worth checking out for aftermarket parts
